Palm HIARCS knocks PC programs down a peg or two!For the first time ever a handheld PDA device, Palm HIARCS 9.50, played in the Computer Schach & Spiele Online Masters 2005 tournament with some of the fastest PCs available. While Palm HIARCS 9.50 competed on a Palm Zire 72 PDA device at 520 Mhz (equivalent of a Pentium at 150Mhz) with 4Mb hash tables, its opposition ran on some of the fastest single, dual and quad processor PC systems available! Despite the hardware advantage of the PC opposition being up to 20-30 times faster, Palm HIARCS 9.50 is fighting the PCs head to head and scored a draw against Chessmaster 10000 and a tremendous victory against Pro Deo 1.0 of Rebel fame. 0 Palm HIARCS 9.5 chess program defeats top 100 GM in Internet Match22nd-24th January 2005, Palm HIARCS 9.5 played a four game internet match against the strong Grandmaster Jan Gustafsson of Germany. GM Jan Gustafsson is a rapidly rising GM with a FIDE rating of 2616 Elo which puts him in the top 100 chess players in the world! Palm HIARCS scored a sensational match win 3-1 with 2 wins and 2 draws achieving an unprecedented 2809 Elo performance rating (for comparison Garry Kasparov rates at 2804 Elo) The match took place on the Chessbase Play Chess Internet Server in the machine room. The rate of play was game in 30 minutes with 10 seconds extra per move. All the games were hard fought and our respect goes to GM Jan Gustafsson for taking up the challenge and playing for the win in each game.
