Neat Web page!
Many readers send in neat web pages for us to visit. I love it! Why? Because with the millions of Web pages out there, chances are I would simply not find or visit your favorite site. So, keep letting us know your favorite sites! And if you know of any really cool Mac sites that are under visited, or have one yourself, please let me know of it!

Dan Vander Plaats, Public Relations Coordinator for Elim Christian School send me this email:

I submit to you a Mac-biased page location. You may read it, link it, tell others about it, or mock it for all you're worth. Thank you.

It is entitled: "What it means to innovate...by Gil Bates"

Pride & Joy Active Setup with Microsoft... NOT!
I recently went up to the Microsoft web site to find o ut what was new in the world of Microsoft products. Since I've heard some people say they use Microsoft's free email program called Outlook Express, I figured I'd take a look and see how good it really is. After working my way through the maze that Microsoft has posted online, I finally found Outlook Express and downloaded it... except it wasn't Outlook Express. It was Internet Explorer 4.0 Active Setup Installer. Hey, all I wanted to do was download Outlook Express... not an active setup system. I know what I need to install, why does Microsoft have to get "active"ly involved with me and my computer? It "will assist me in obtaining the proper items"... don't think so. If I "connect to the Internet through a proxy server, I may want to have my proxy server's name and port number handy.. the installer will attempt to discover my proxy server from my current preferences..." Not mine. What else is it going to attempt to discover from my computer? This is just as good as the auto-update that Microsoft has put out there for its products... go on-line and it "senses" that it needs to be updated. How? Little green men passing on info when I'm not looking? I know technology is changing, and people want things simplified for them so that they can enjoy their leisure time rather then fussing with the computer, BUT I'll make my own decisions as to when it's time to update without Big Brother or his evil twin making up my mind for me. And I definitely will NOT be using Outlook Express any time soon.

On-line Only
I like to create. It's one of the reasons I started My Mac well over three years ago. The last few weeks I have been playing around and creating some StartupScreens and desktop pictures you can download from our web site. They're free and available for your use. Enjoy!

Do you create desktop pictures or StartupScreens? Hey, if you have some neat ones and don't have a web page to showcase them, let me know. We are always looking for My Mac Exclusive items to give away on the web page. You would get full credit and the thanks of millions of Mac fans. (Okay, perhaps not MILLIONS, but at least one or two!)
Tim

Have a Happy and Safe 4th of July
