I had this for over a year but didn`t clean it too often. I also cooked
stuff without the metal tray at times resulting in oil dripping onto the
crumb tray below the oven. When I cooked fish like this, it actually
caught fire. The oven survived all this and still worked perfectly but
eventually there was a problem with the dial which meant that the top
grill didn`t work. It wasn`t the grill element that died as it still
worked if you manipulated the dial (it sparked when you turned it and at
some parts it turned the top grill on but intermittently), but there was
no easy way to try to fix the dial to make it work reliably.

What compounded the situation was that the grills automatically and
cleverly went on or off depending on the temperature of the oven so I was
never sure if the top grill was supposed to be on or not. I always had it
on the highest temperature (both simultaneous grills) and could cook
literally anything that fitted inside and it was highly efficient energy
wise. I didn`t find it effective at lower temperatures but it worked
similarly to a 200 celsius convection oven at the high temperature setting
(same cooking times).

All in all I think it was very well designed and I will be buying a new
one. I did try to get a microwave oven with grill but the grill
temperature on the microwave is far too high (even when food is placed
well below it) and can`t cook things properly. This was evident when I
tried cooking frozen chips and they turned out rock solid after little
time. I also have to turn food in the microwave which isn`t always
possible. I was surprised to learn that the hinari worked far better than
the sharp grill and the hinari is almost equivalent to a convection oven
in how it cooked.
