Welcome to
IHSA.org!
The Illinois High School Association is proud to
have you as our guest. Our Web Site is here to
provide you with the latest information on IHSA
programs and activities. Like everyone else, we're
still learning how to use this wonderful new
technology. We invite you to browse through our
site, and if you have any comments or suggestions,
please feel free to send
us a note. We're glad you're here!
The Illinois High School Association Web site
debuted in January, 1996. For a year prior to
that, a four-line BBS electronically delivered
announcements and results to the media. Although
it served its purpose well, the BBS could not
match the potential of the Web to reach thousands
of people simultaneously anywhere in the world.
And so, after a brief period during which both
systems were operable, the BBS was shut down for
good in August, 1996.
The Web continues to expand rapidly. Usage figures
for the third year of operation are about three
times that of the second year. On a typical
tournament day, about 200,000 individual pages are
downloaded. Our busiest day of the year occurs at
the end of October, when the football pairings are
released.
The IHSA's main web server is housed and
maintained by Multi-Ad.,
Inc. In addition the IHSA
has three in-house servers that are used for a
variety of tasks.
IHSA.org currently consists of over 15,000 web pages of
material, many of them produced by hand, but most
generated by database programs in the IHSA Office.
For instance, the online directories (schools,
officials, and media) as well as the football
schedule and most of the records pages are all
generated automatically. Still other databases are
used to input and generate the state tournament
information that appears here. The IHSA is happy
to be able to post the results of our state
tournaments directly from the state final site,
using a system that will provide real-time
"Scoreboard"-type updates from most of
our state finals.
IHSA.org is designed by Scott Johnson, IHSA
Assistant Executive Director, and Craig Johnson of
Digital Dakota.
In addition, Jeff Jones works part-time on the IHSA.org site.
