For you, the questioners:
rule #1 -- Do you know how to behave on EE? * did you read the members agreement: http://www.experts-exchange.com/memberAgreement.jsp ? * did you read the ALL the help sections: http://www.experts-exchange.com/help.jsp ?
----> If not, you risk to be wrong.
rule #2 -- Is your question posted correctly? * did you put your question in the correct topic area: http://www.experts-exchange.com/allTopics.jsp ? note: there are several subtopic areas, you might also post pointer questions in several topic areas * did you put a good question title? note: only putting "URGENT HELP NEEDED" is NOT (and will never be) a good question title note: adding "URGENT" or similar will not help to get answers faster, only slower * did you put problem details? note: typically information like the following should be in your question, where applicable - application names and versions and service packs - extract of codes where applicable - error messages (if any) !!!!! - sample input , current ouput and requested ouput (data and/or behaviour) - indication of your knowledge - indication of what you tried already note: do NOT post pages of code or details. only the essential parts.
----> If not, you are at fault.
rule #3 -- Question follow up ? * Once you received a comment, you should react to it. If you need some time to test (>30 min), post a comment you do so, and come back when done. * The suggestion does not work "copy/pasted" into your situation... Did you check that your posted details might not have been complete enough to write the full solution. * Very often, the suggestions assume you have some knowledge, so you should be able to implement it * A "No, this does not work" CAN be a correct answer. * If you got several people giving you the "answer" withing few minutes, split the points.
----> If not, you are at fault.
rule #4 -- we, the "experts" * not every one posting to your q is an expert in the topic regarding your q. Still, the comment might be valid. * not every comment is correct. Error happens, most often because the question was not read properly or was not precise enough. * try not to flame us, we try not to flame you. * we are not employees of EE, we get not money nor anything else. We help, because we: - know about the situation you are in (technical problem) - know about the situation you are in (boss behind you asking for solutions) - like to share our knowledge * we are not "working" 24/24 - 7/7. It could be that the expert helping you has gone off for lunch or whatever. * we do not know everything. Some might think we do / he does, but that's impossible. * we sometimes "know" that what you ask for is not possible. This is an acceptable answer, but you might review your constraints so we can suggest workarounds or other solutions.
Now, if you think I did a really "bad job" on your question, post a question here: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Community_Support/Feedback/
TYPICAL WORK SHIFT: from +-8:00 to +-17:00 (GMT+1), except weekend (Sat+Sun) and holidays (of course).
TYPCIAL POSTING: * first comment is like fire-and-forget: - Typically, it's a suggestion that should point you to the good direction. If you need more details, post a comment and ask - If I requested more input, post a comment with ALL of the details asked for - suggestions might not be the only valid one, and can even be wrong * following comments: - I try to follow up your question until resolution. - I might miss your comments, email notification is not always 100% - I might miss your comments, I get about 200-300 emails per day from EE... * I might stop responding - when another expert shows up a much better way or using techniques I don't know - when I missed a comment notification - when I am off for some days - when I have to work on a project without the time to visit EE.
----------- Here my background ------------ I started to learn developing at the age of 19, when I first discovered a PC. I started with Turbo Pascal 6, and soon realized small Applications running in DOS. My 2year-study in Luxemburg gave me INPUT for C, C++, COBOL; Databases were Oracle in Unix and some Merise Method for Analysis. Start on the job was 1998 with VB5 (being a complete newbie), meanwhile i work with VB6, looking forward for the next generation to come. In Database means i can handle Oracle 7.3 and SQL 6.5, but my strong point is SQL 7 (starting with SQL Server 2000 now). I did some MCP exams, and finished my MCSD (2000), and my MCDBA recently (2004). MCP List: *Visual Basic 5 -> MCP *Visual Basic 6 Desktop *Visual Basic 6 Distributed *Implementing SQL Server 7.0 *System Administration for SQL Server 7.0 *Analysing Requirements Defining Solutions Architecture -> MCSD 2004 *OCP Exam #1Z0-411: Oracle 8 Internet Database Operator 2004 *Oracle Exam #1Z0-007: Introduction to Oracle9i: SQL* 2005 *Installing, Configuring, and Administering Microsoft Windows 2000 Server -> MCDBA 2005 * HP Openview Operations for Windows 7.x
In case you need to send me files about a problem, email to: my-EE-account-name (ad) pt <dot> lu I will NOT answer any questions send by email to me unless pointed to a question asked on EE directly.
