Gartner Research predicts computer chip sales will surpass their dot-com high, thanks to high demand for iPods and other portable electronic devices, according to The Mercury News. Flash memory chips, like the ones used in the iPod shuffle and nano, now make up a substantial part of the computer chip market. »

A Bear Stearns report shows that the video capable iPod is selling as well as the iPod nano, and in some places is even selling better, according to Reuters. The iPod's popularity has left Apple's music players in tight supply, which is driving up demand for competing MP3 players, according to analyst Andrew Neff. »

12:00 AM - System Utility iPulse Adds Support for Intel Processors

The Iconfactory on Thursday released version 2.1.4 of its utility iPulse, which monitors such system statistics as RAM and CPU usage, network activity and so forth. This update introduces support for Power Mac G5 Quad computers and includes a universal binary that will enable the software to run on the upcoming Intel-based Macs. This is a free update; the full version is US$12.95.
