The player starts out with a small space ship, armed with one simple laser, and 1000 credits in cash.

The safest and easiest way to earn money is to trade goods between neighbouring solar systems.

If the player chooses the goods to trade wisely, it isn't too difficult to sell goods with a profit.

There are other ways to get rich, though. You might become a bounty hunter and hunt down pirates.

It is also possible to become a pirate yourself and rob honest traders of their cargo.

Beware, though: pirating is a way to get rich quickly, but the police force will go after you.

Space Trader is available in color, in grayscales and in black & white.

An excellent game. The only thing I find this lacking to is Tradewars from the old BBS days. If we could just do all this trading and own and build up planets (defenses, tradeposts, etc...) it will be everything that my favorite game from old would have. This is by far the best game I have ever played for my Palm. It's amazing that this game is offered for free. You can do so much in this game, and the galaxy is absolutely enourmous. I love that there is no time limit, so you can just keep on playing. If you're tired of living the honest life, start running guns and narcotics. If the cops are harrassing you too much, blast them to pieces. And if you're tired of getting tossed in jail, give up the hard life, and go towards a more honest existance. Tired of trading...become a bounty hunter and seek and destroy all those pirates that are out there. Or if you can't find a good bargain, then just get your cargo for free. All it takes is a few laser beams and a protective shield, and you can blast away at fellow traders and plunder all of their goods. If you don't get this game, you're a fool.

This game epands from the simple Dope Wars into something so much more complex and fun. But when I say complex, I don't mean you have to be a rocket scientist or a stock market wiz to play the game. Now you've got a space ship, add-ons for it (Boosters, Guns, Shields, Co-piolot) then after that ship gets boring go ahead and trade it in for a new one.theres no particular time limit or profit goal. On your way to a different docking bay you'll run into traders pirates and police that you can fight to get a higher wanted level, (while still buying and selling goods to make a profit). But what would make the game a complete dream-come-true is system if you could save your progress and not worry about getting busted by the cops and having to restart the entire game. This game works just and well with gray scaling graphics as it does with color. and isn't slow at all; it worked fine on my basic of basic M105 and if it works for that it'll work for anything.

*SPOILER* 'Tribbles' is actually taken from a Star Trek episode named 'The trouble with Tribbles'. The script was from David Gerrold who also wrote the fantastic 'Harlie' series. In the old 'Elite' game, Tribbles caused a lot of havoc by cluttering up your HUD etc. In Space Trader, if you get stuck with tribbles and need them to increase, buy food. To kill them (but not all, although an Alien trader may buy all of them from you), carry NARCOTICS (i think...). Dead tribbles turn into FUR which can be sold at most places. Only prob is you'll get in trouble with the Law.
