UFO/Michael Schenker

Go-players who visit this page may find it funny that someone can be that crazy about music, even more if they find out it is Hard rock. Well, I shouldn't care...

In turn, UFO and Michael Schenker fans will not understand what Go is about. Okay, I stop annoying you with my excuses for these mad pages immediately!

Although I lived in Hannover (almost the hometown of Schenker) all my life I first noticed Michael Schenker in 1983 (being 16 years old) when "Built To Destroy" was released. A friend of mine bought it and I persuaded him later to swap it for the Judas Priest-Maxi "Some Heads Are Gonna Roll" that I owned. My first contact to this brilliant music was the "Monday Evening Rock Show" broadcasted by BFBS (which was the British radio station broadcasting for the British soldiers stationed in Germany). At that time John Bennet played a lot of music I liked a lot (NWOBHM, MSG and UFO). At first I didn't really like the UFO-stuff he played ("Young Blood" was one track I remember). I highly preferred the MSG tracks (especially "Ready To Rock" and the medley "Captain Nemo/Rock My Nights Away" from "Rock Will Never Die") and became a "die hard"-MSG-fan at that time. Unfortunately I missed to see MSG and UFO in concert at that time (I not even saw the legendary "Rock Pop in Concert" on the German television) and then both groups disappeared from the Rock'n'Roll-circus for several years.

Anyway I kept buying all the records I found. I was very much impressed by "Strangers In The Night", "Force It", "Phenomenon" and the first MSG-album. This is not at all unusual but I rarely find UFO-fans who also like the first two records called "1" and "Flying" as well. "Boogie For George" - hits the German charts in 1971 - was regularly played in a disco in Hannover ("Röhre") even in the late 80s. This track and all the stuff from "Flying" and the "Japan Live" really turned me on (and still does).

Now I am more a "die hard" UFO than MSG fan. I didn't like most of the tracks Schenker did record with Robin McAuley in the late 80s and early 90s and I am also not a fan of acoustic tracks. I prefer distortion sound.

UFO was touring Germany between 2000-11-02 and 2000-11-19. I visited the concerts in Hannover (2000-11-02), Hamburg (2000-11-03) and Cologne (2000-11-19).

For Details of Michael Schenker's CD "The Odd Trio" go here.

My top tracks are:
1. Rock Bottom
2. Boogie For George, Lights Out, Love To Love, Hot'N'Ready, Captain Nemo
3. Let It Roll, Natural Thing, This Kids
4. Unraveled, Let Sleeping Dogs Lie, Lost Horizons

And the top records:
1. Strangers In The Night (surprise...)
2. Force It
3. Rock Will Never Die
4. Phenomenon
5. Covenant

My_Flying_V.jpg (71218 Byte) Well, and I do play guitar myself (my favourites are Rock Bottom, Hot'N'Ready, Let It Roll, Captain Nemo and Lights Out) and my equipment meets professional standard (Gibson Flying V 1991, Engl Straight Amplifier) but actually my playing is very poor. Together with my friends "Wolle" (Lead Guitar, Vocals) and Martin (Drums, Vocals) we might play live some time where you could expect a mixture of UFO (Rock Bottom, Doctor Doctor, Lights Out, Let It Roll and possibly Boogie For George), Metallica (Seek & Destroy, For Whom The Bells Toll and possibly The Four Horsemen) and various other Songs (I hope that I do not have to play this Bon Jovi-Track again...). If this will ever take place, I will announce it here. Of course there will be a Live-CD, Live-Video and whatever you can dream of! For those who cannot wait anymore I promise to compile a CDR with some "real Garage" recordings (for sure different from the Metallica shit). Interested? Send me a mail: christoph@cgerlach.de
