  Welcome.  You have arrived at a Level-1 portal for the Circle Alliance in this human dimension.  While a great adventure may be just beginning for you if you continue on, from this moment your future will be far from certain.

   Know however, that none here will judge you should you decide to  turn back  now.

  Although on its surface  ChessHeads  seems to be merely a game, in reality it is much more than that.  Primarily, it is training for a higher level, but a level that we may not reveal to you just yet.

  We will tell you that, to have arrived here at this time, you likely possess qualities that we in  The Circle Alliance  will be able to put to effective use if you decide to join us in our struggle.

  If you are a true warrior of the mind:  well acquainted with tactics and strategy, exhibiting keen intuition and focus, and holding to your word as your bond -- you may be close to embarking on a path with the Alliance, should you so choose.  Or perhaps you are simply a talented newcomer -- a gem hidden in stone -- a budding super-agent who is ready to be mentored.

  In either case you have a  choice  to make.  We suggest that you choose wisely.






 
The Origins of ChessHeads

  By way of introduction, you should know that two millennia ago, beings from a dimension known as the Qualwirld seeded our human world with the rudiments of an elaborate game; one which had become integral to their way of life over the course of many thousands of years.

  That game centered around a peculiar but deadly struggle.  It was then -- as now -- mysteries apart from the iconic playing surface with which humans have occupied each other in mock battle for so many centuries.

  Consequently, an unparalleled depth of purpose -- and the intrigue of an unceasing conflict -- have existed for eons at the core of this pastime you have always known simply as... chess.

  Now suprisingly -- owing not just to the power of the cards, but rather, to the Qualwirld effects they represent -- the game that you thought you knew has been forever transformed.

  No longer simply a strategic exercise on a familiar playing surface, your ancient game shows itself to be an unforgiving training ground, an arena for creative struggle, and a brutal quest for survival.

  Far greater tests of your strength and resourcefulness lie ahead of you now, for the opponents you face are suddenly able to wield far more than mere toy-like, inanimate figures scattered across a simple wooden grid.

  And whether you are aware of it or not, much more is at stake in your domain than ever before.






 
The Circle Alliance

  It is time that we reveal to you a world far removed from everyday human concerns.


  But first we offer you one suggestion: "Do not tell anyone."
  Make that your mantra, and you will have nothing to fear from us.

  Perhaps you will still have reason to fear the Dark Flames, but... well, more about those vile creatures later.

Dark Flames

  At any rate, the Qualwirld agents of two thousand years past we spoke of earlier were, in their own dimension, members of an ultra-secret order called the Circle Alliance.

  They were of the species Pahwaun, the lowliest of sentient beings in their world.  They had found the way across a dimensional portal that secretly linked their world to ours.  The first of their kind to make it through, they had risked everything in search of recruits for a noble goal: the clandestine training of future generations of strategic-minded humans.


  Such training had been essential in the Qualwirld as well.  Even today, that elusive dimension is a cold and brutal reality.  It's a place where fallen beings are restored from a state of "Entigy" only after comrades have won a cruel and barbaric quest on their behalf.

  Nowadays the Circle Alliance culls an elite group from among adherents of countless games for training in the real thing: a perilous Qualwirld struggle between life and death.  Guardians of the hidden order through and through, the youngest of these humans call themselves "ChessHeads."  Groomed covertly from birth and recruited at an optimum moment, members of the Circle Alliance are set apart -- from other boys and girls, from other men and women, and from other Qualwirlders -- by their adherence, training, and sense of purpose.

  In our time, having taken possession of the dimensional portals long ago, the Alliance's presence in the human world has allowed it sufficient time to increase its numbers -- carefully and secretly -- all the while struggling against the onslaught of the Dark Flame Legions back at home.

  Know well that the creatures of the Black Flames are ferocious, relentless, and unwavering in the face of reason.  They threaten constantly to wrest control of the portals from the Alliance and to overrun both worlds.

  And so, opposed to that unthinkable scenario and at odds with any injustice of the cosmos that could bring about such an ominous future, every member of the Circle Alliance makes a solemn vow, namely, to act as a steadfast obstacle to doom.





 

You Must Choose

  For us in the Alliance, there can be only one challenge, only one destiny, only one side to join.

  But for all of that, few beings truly sense the massive scale upon which the struggle takes place; nor where the advantages lie, nor who controls, nor which side shall win out in the end.

  The only real certainty is that just one goal holds any hope for the future; for an existence with reason at its core; for myriad lives of truth and beauty, in this or any other world.

  The choice is made clear; and now, you too have been chosen.

  So, before we reveal our secrets to you, we have but one question to ask:
