Trailblazer is certain to be one of those titles you will see where someone completes the game in just a few minutes. We’ve all see the Super Mario Bros. Done Quick and Quake Done Quick videos; Trailblazer has the same potential. It starts off easy to give the player some understanding of the game and what’s to come but about halfway through the easy stage it takes a turn for the worse. The levels get insanely hard and require some thinking in order to get past the blockades, pit falls and other various obstacles.
The game has 45 levels spread across the three difficulty levels, including 26 original tracks that can be unlocked. There are no fancy power-ups to get or attributes to upgrade, it’s all about skill and determination, plain and simple. At the start of the game you are given 30 seconds to complete that level. After you complete it, the remaining time is carried over and you are given some extra time for the next stage. Beating the levels as fast as possible becomes essential if one wants to stand a chance at the later levels, because once you run out of time, that’s the end of the game.
Graphically speaking this game is king. The graphics are smooth, sharp, and very, very colorful and vibrant. There is definitely a retro feel to the game which will appeal to the fans, and it also fits the game really well. Since the game is so colorful you will quickly realize what the good and bad things on each level are. Purple and red will make you angry but yellow and green will always be welcomed. There are purple blockades, red deceleration pads, green acceleration pads, and yellow jumps.
Each level is different, very different. Sometimes they are a straight shot to the end with a few holes, other times they are a connection of jumps and falls. The variety of levels is incredible and will always make you come back for more.
The music is fast paced and the sound effects are just as wild as the game. It’s really difficult to find anything bad about this game, aside from the fact that it gets really hard really fast.
This is yet another title is a must have for the Gizmondo. Trailblazer and POD will fill in those gaps where you have some time to kill. Trailblazer is about 80% skill, 20% luck, and a whole lot of fun.
