Black to Move and Win

[need a hint?]     [Solution]     [archive]

1...Rxe3 2.Qxe6 Re1+

White no doubt counted on the "automatic" recapture of the queen by 2...fxe6, allowing White to capture the rook on e3.  But Black craftily takes advantage of White's exposed king, and substitutes this zwischenzug, or in-between move.

3.Kg2 fxe6

After White moves his king out of check, Black recaptures the queen on e6, and ends up a piece to the good.  A zwischenzug often occurs in the middle of series of captures, so beware of the in-between move!
