hanks for your interest in joining The Great Aluminum Can RoundUp. As you will discover, collecting aluminum beverage cans for recycling is an excellent way to raise money. What's more, recycling aluminum cans helps your community and the environment.

The Can Manufacturers Institute, the national trade group for the can industry and its suppliers, launched The Great Aluminum Can RoundUp in 1987 to help schools, community groups, Boy and Girl Scouts, 4-H Clubs, charities and businesses learn how easy it is to turn aluminum beverage cans into cash. Since then, thousands of participants have used the proceeds from recycling programs to buy books, computers, athletic and playground equipment, to fund field trips and more.

All of this is possible because the aluminum beverage can is the most recyclable and valuable consumer product package on the market today. Currently, two out of every three aluminum cans entering the beverage market are recycled. Empty aluminum cans that are recycled are back on store shelves as new cans in 60 days or less, saving energy, reducing litter and conserving natural resources. Indeed, used aluminum cans have value, which creates a fundraising opportunity for your group. Since the early 1970s, Americans have collected $7.7 billion from recycling aluminum cans.

By clicking on the sections above, you will find information on how to begin and sustain your RoundUp and suggestions for spreading the word in your community. You already have the most important ingredients for success -- the students in your school or the members of your organization, their families, businesses and your community. Soon you'll see how you can make the RoundUp successful for your group.
