Write for GameDev.net
If you are interested in writing for Gamedev.Net, we'd love to hear from you. Our site receives tens of thousands of visitors per day! This is a great way to get exposure for yourself, as well as for any web sites or companies you are associated with. If you are a registered member of GameDev.net, the article you contribute will be credited in your user profile. Your article will be put in the spotlight for others to read. So what better way is there to share your experience with other programmers / designers / artists?

Submission Guidelines

Let's talk specifics. Your audience will include programmers, artists, sound designers, and producers. We accept articles dealing with any topics related to game development (theory, graphics, ai, etc.). If you would like some suggestions of topics to write about, be sure to visit our Article Proposals and Requests forum. When you decide that you would like to write for us, use the information below to simplify the process for all of us.

Formatting Articles
When writing an article, you don't need to worry about HTML formatting as we will reformat each article to fit in with the rest of the site. Generally, short paragraphs work best for the web, and you should try to divide your article into sections preceded by headers. You may include snippets of code within your article. The final article may be in HTML format, Microsoft Word, RTF, or plain text. If you would like to use another format, please contact us in advance to confirm that we can work with your desired format.

Artwork
You may include artwork within your article. For images low in colors, we generally prefer GIF files (for graphs, graphical text, etc). Photograph quality images should be saved in JPG format, or PNG if you prefer.

Submitting an Article
Submitting an article is an easy process. If your article consists of several files (text portion and images), you'll need to zip up all the files into one file using a program such as Winzip. If your article is a single text file or HTML file, you can submit it as is.

Send all submissions as an email attachment to:

What Happens Next
You should receive a response confirming that we received the article within one week. If you do not receive confirmation, feel free to resend it or follow up; in these days of rampant spam, there's always a chance it got filtered out.

After we have received your article, one or more members of the Editorial Review Board (see below) review it for technical correctness and relevance to our audience. If we feel that your article is not appropriate as a featured article, we will then consider it for inclusion as a Sweet Snippet, or as part of our reference archive. If your article is not accepted, we may send you feedback allowing you to make changes and resubmit. To increase the likelihood of your article being accepted, take the time (preferably before writing it) to peruse our reference section to determine whether or not your subject matter is already sufficiently well covered. It is also suggested that you find someone to peer review it before submitting.

Terms and Conditions
By submitting your article to GameDev.net, you are granting to us a permanent, non-exclusive license to use the article in any format we deem appropriate, with the assurance that you will always be given full credit for your work, and that you will retain full ownership of it. If you are planning on submitting your article to other websites, we ask that you inform us of your intent, and that you not allow other sites to post the article until it has appeared on GameDev.net for at least 30 days.
