GameDev: The Game As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I've wondered: what would it be like if GameDev were made into a game or two? To find this out and secure a happy death, I came up with an idea: this thread. In this thread I want everyone who can...

Bush, rugby, and Democratic hypocrisy I'm ArchWizard and I approved this joke thread, an act which I will soon regret. I was reading through my list of webcomics and, upon visiting The Slumbering Lungfish, found this bit of commentary from Lore Sjoberg concerning a picture of Bush pun...

Random desktops. Desktops that are random. In response to one person who wanted a way to display randomly selected wallpaper images on their desktop, I created RandomDesktop, easily obtainable through the front page of my website. It's fairly simple right now and pretty much does th...

Congrats to Etnu? (And Fruny, et. al.) I was refreshing the Lounge, as I often do, and then Etnu's name suddenly turned brown. I checked one of the threads and apparently he is now a moderator. So, um... congratulations, good luck, and try not to be too much of a nazi [wink]. EDIT...

Sending Unused Checks on the Way to Destruction I have several boxes' worth of unused checks for a checking account that's going to be closed someday. Now, I want to get rid of those checks, but I don't feel comfortable simply throwing them away, since I have no idea what an identity thief could p...

NEW: Chairman Mao's Kung-pao Chicken! I was shopping at a grocery store two days ago, and I noticed that you could buy "Napoleon brand" vinegar and canned vegetables. I realize that I don’t know as much about history as I should, but I fantly recall hearing something about Napoleon...

What the heck does 'dolerout' mean? I came across this word in The Achievement of Desire by Richard Rodriguez. The word appeared in a quote of another author’s book. I searched several dictionaries and found no results. I used Google and Altavista and each returned two relevant r...

Hexagonal Tiles I have an idea for an game similar in gameplay to Final Fantasy Tactics. However, I’m interested in using hexagonal tiles instead of squares. How could a hexagonal grid be represented in memory?

What should I do with this tin? I was going through my father’s collection of useless CDs for salvage, and I came across an AOL CD that came in this weird tin. Normally I try to save the nice CD cases, but this tin really isn’t much good; the art and the labeling are pa...

Latin for "government by clones?" Last time I checked, "-cracy" was derived from the ancient Greek word for "rule," not Latin for "government." Beyond that, I cannot assist.

Computer game dreams? I once dreamt that I was playing Final Fantasy 9. I wasn't in the game, though: I was just sitting in front of my TV and playing like any normal gamer would. I gained a level!

Help me identify the landmark. That looks like the Louvre to me. A certain AndrewRussell (who shall remain nameless) disagrees with me, so you might want to wait for a second opinion before you do whatever it is you plan to do.

What do you have for breakfast? I eat parallel, firewire, and USB for breakfast because I usually don't get punched in the face often enough. When my face hurts too much, I eat one of those sausage & egg sandwich things that has enough cholesterol in it to kill a horse (but no...
