Unofficial New Forum FAQ These seem to be the some of the more frequently asked questions about the new forums in the first few hours of launch. And here are my unofficial answers. Why doesn't auto-login work? There seems to be an issue with with cookies carried over fro...

-1 replies? It seems like the reply count on most of the boards seems off by one. General Programming (as of this post time) is absolutely littered with -1 reply counts.

Odd behaviour In the thread about const vs. #define, I posted a reply with the default icon, but it displays with the skull and cross-bones icon. When editting it, it still remains skull and cross-bones. Bug or was there some change that happened while I was out?

Member profile Out of curiosity I checked my member profile and I noticed that the member since field was dated 12/30/1999. I know I was a member since at least 12/10/1999, (I can still find my first post). Or is 12/30/1999 the date the member database was migrated...

forum tags Would it be possible to start stripping out certain HTML tags again? Getting rid of the blink tag would be really, really nice. And I’m not too fond of seeing the font tag abused either.

rankings I think you can take off the ??? entry in the rankings section of the FAQ.

drugs post I thought the drugs thread was supposed to have been deleted. However, you can still access it off of the "most active threads" section of the stats page.

New post button Maybe a confirmation should be added when making a new post off of a thread? It seems like a lot of people are clicking "new post" rather than "reply to post" which is cluttering the boards severly. Just a simple message like "Are you sure you wan...

Active topics page For a variety of reasons, it might be nice if the Active Topics page had a link back to the gamedev.net discussion forums main page in addition to the "Back to the Forums" link currently there. (Most notably because my default browser doesn’t r...

References Yes, it's undefined. In fact, dereferencing a null pointer is the example the standard uses when describing undefined behavior. (See Section 1.9 Pargraph 4)

References This line: int & b = *a; has undefined behavior. It may crash, assert, launch roast beef sandwiches at Poland, etc. Just because it doesn't crash on your C++ compiler doesn't mean that there isn't another C++ compiler that it will crash ...

References References should never be null. They're required by the C++ standard to be non-null. (Well, you could have a reference to a pointer and that pointer could be null, but the reference itself needs to be bound to valid object.)

References If you just need a reminder: void function(int & a) { a = 5; } void another_function(void) { int fred = 0; function(fred); // fred now is equal to 5 } (edit: assuming you were talking about C++ anyways)

2D Vector Graphics From non-managed code you can use Image::Save() with an in-memory IStream interface and use D3DXCreateTextureFromFileInMemory() on that resulting memory block. There's probably a less convoluted method to do it though.

User Interface tool. It's been around for at least two or three years.

User Interface tool. Well you can embed Flash in a program using GameSWF, though there may be other methods as well. I guess what you define as "cool buttons and the rest" and what language(s) you are using for your application would determine what tools you'd need to c...

STL code ported from VS6 to VS7.1 generates overloads with similar conventions errors General Programming has a rule now that you need to wait 24 hours between bumps.

Passing data between forms Assuming that the textbox is accessible to the calling code you could just use f.textbox_name.Text.
