The game is based on the southern French city of Carcassonne, an important trade route between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. The players develop the area around Carcassonne by placing land tiles. Each turn the area becomes larger as the players expand the map and add roads, fields, cities, and cloisters. The players may also deploy their followers as thieves, farmers, knights, and monks to control and score points for the roads, farms, cities, and cloisters. 2 - 5 players. Ages 8 +

Set in the French village of Carcassonne in medieval times, this award winning game will test your strategic skills like no other. The game itself is easy to learn, however hard to master. You have to place your followers on tiles being laid out as play progresses, but be careful, you only have a limited number of followers. A bit of luck is needed, however the ability to read your opponents play is essential as you try to build more structures than them.
Points are scored when you complete roads or cities among other things. You can be mean to your opponents by making sure they can never complete what they start, or you can play nice. There are now several expansions to this game, among them Inns & Cathedrals, Traders & Builders and the new exciting Tower. Depending on the expansions used, game play may vary from 45 minutes to over 2 hours!
