New Leadership

Dear Friends,
Please join us in celebration! We have been successful in our quest to begin our second century of service to Colorado as a locally operated not-for-profit agency, no longer under the domain of a national parent company. And many thanks to you and the individuals in our community who helped and supported Tennyson Center for Children at Colorado Christian Home as we worked to successfully separate from the National Benevolent Association (NBA).

To give you a brief overview of what has transpired, the former local board of directors of Tennyson Center for Children, who were dismissed by the NBA last September, regrouped and formed a local 501c3, the Friends of Children. Following NBA's dismissal of our local board, the financially struggling NBA entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in February of this year and on August 11, 2004 announced to our management team that it was closing Tennyson Center for Children.

After a long ordeal and much travail, Friends of Children successfully negotiated an agreement with the NBA and the creditors committee. That agreement was signed, sealed, and delivered on October 5, 2004 and ensures the future of Tennyson Center and the continuance of our critically important services to abused and neglected children in Colorado. Tennyson Center is no longer a party to the bankruptcy proceedings unfortunately overshadowing the NBA. If you would like more information about this please see www.nbacares.org.

After 100 years of serving and providing for abused and neglected children, this agency has emerged healthy and whole with the recent reinstatement of former Executive Director Bob Cooper and Chief Operating Officer Rick Thorgren. Whether you consider it a stroke of luck, a miracle, or the result of the undaunted and unwavering efforts of Friends of Children, the successful negotiations occurred literally as the midnight clock was striking. As of last week, it became official -- Tennyson Center for Children at Colorado Christian Home has separated from the NBA and is now locally owned by Friends of Children. More>>
