The International Activity badge (#00144) is a 3-inch diameter patch which is worn as a TEMPORARY EMBLEM on the right pocket of the Scout or Scouter to recognize participation in unit, council, and world scouting international activities. It is NOT worn in place of or alongside the World Crest emblem. There is also a 5-inch jacket patch (#00145) available for authorized wear

Each local Council has the authority to determine requirements for the patch. There is no time restriction for earning the International activity patch.

Here are some examples of the criteria which can be established for this patch:

One local Councils' requirements are as follows:

  • The unit leader, or his designee, determines eligibility.
  • From among the 3 categories, a registered youth or adult must earn 100 points.
  • Category I (40 points each)
    • Earn the interpreter Strip

Here's another Council's requirements:

The International Activity Patch is awarded to youth and adult members who participate in International activities. The Council International Committee has defined this as:

  • Participate in a minimum of seven days of international events. This may be cumulative; participation does not have to be at one single event. (mainly for older scouts who travel internationally or host international Scouting visitors)
  • Participate in three, separate International Scouting events of at least one day's duration. (For Cubs, events like JOTA, JOTI, and Den supervised e-mail or snail mail pen-pal projects with non-USA units to qualify.)

And here's a third:

In order to wear the International Activity emblem, a pack, den, post, crew, patrol, troop or individual must meet one of the following requirements:

  1. Participate as a member of your unit or a contingent unit in an activity outside of the United States. This must have a minimum duration of three days and two nights.
  2. Participate as a member of your unit or individually host a group or individual scout from another country during their visit to the United States. This must have a minimum duration of one day and night.
  3. Participate in a camporee or scheduled event in which scouts of other nations are involved. This must have a minimum of three days and two nights.
  4. Serve as a counselor in the European Camp Staff program.
