In Theaters: Rescue Dawn
Open in limited release this week is Rescue Dawn, the latest film by director and writer Werner Herzog, retelling the harrowing true story of POW camp escapee Dieter Dengler. Werner Herzog's tale balances on the interesting edge of fiction and documentary with Christian Bale portraying Dieter Dengler, focusing on his time as a soldier sent to Vietnam and who is captured and held prisoner when his plane is shot down over the jungles of Laos. Despite depravation, torture, starvation and growing tension amongst the prisoners, Dengler somehow keeps his mind focused, gathers strength and finds a way to escape the camp, and heads into the great unknown that is the jungle, hoping to find his way home.
