HELICOPTER CHESS CHALLENGE FOR BARNARDO'S AND NATIONAL CHESS
WEEK.
After appearing with Mike Sargent on BBC Breakfast TV in the Eastbourne College
Long Room, David travelled by Royal Navy helicopter to Guildford, Wokingham,
Leicester and the Art of Chess exhibition at Somerset House. He enjoyed enthusiastic
receptions at each school, and took part in individual and simultaneous events,
and even a human chess game!
This tiring but fantastic day concluded with games against other members of the
England 2003 World Youth Championship squad at the brand-new City Inn Hotel,
Westminster.
David's travels were broadcast throughout
the day on BBC News and CBBC Newsround.

DAVID
TO PLAY SERGEY KARJAKIN AT THE ART OF CHESS EXHIBITION.
London's
prestigious Gilbert Collection Gallery is soon to be host to
a fascinating exhibition telling the story of the 'Art of Chess'.
From June to September they will be showing some remarkable
chess
sets as designed by Marcel Duchamp, Damien Hirst, Man Ray,
Yoko Ono and many others. There will also be showings
of chess movies and various other chess-related happenings
The first of these will be a first-time meeting of David and
13-year-old Ukrainian grandmaster Sergey Karjakin on a
giant-sized chessboard in the courtyard of Somerset House on
Saturday 28 June, starting at 11am. They will then play
open-air simuls against the public between noon and 5pm in the
same place. Forty tables will be in play at once and there will be
a prize for anyone who manages to draw or win a game against one
