Between the dates of February 22 and March 10, the city of Linares in
Andalusia, Spain will host the 19th edition of its festival. As always,
there would be a crown group, the Super torneo in which this year’s
participants are: World’s number 1 ranked Garry Kasparov, Current FIDE world
champion, Ruslan Ponomariov, His vice champion Vassili Ivanchuk, Former FIDE
world champion and world’s number 3 Viswanathan Anand, British super GM
Michael Adams, former world junior champion and former FIDE vice champion
GM Alexey Shirov and Spanish local hero GM Francisco Vallejo. As you will
read in the review to round 1, this year the event is especially ‘hot’ and
as always daily reports and photos along with game synopsis would appear
here. In addition to the main event, traditionally, Linares carries a
special tournament of invited blind players - much in the spirit of Spain
where there is special attention to people with disabilities. In about a
week’s time, there will also be a strong open tournament to compliment
the festival.
