Woodcarving is the basic kind of creative activity of the artist Arutyunov Rafael  (DOB: 17.09.1938, Pyatigorsk, Russia). He is of Armenian nationality and member of the Union of Artists since 1982. For a long time he lived in Chechnya(Grozny), therefore his creativity is devoted to Caucasian subjects. His other works are devoted to a theme from the life of the bright characters of fairy tales of Pushkin and Russian folklore. Some of his works are exposed in the State Museum of Oriental Art (Moscow), Museum of a Tree (Yerevan), Museum of Fine Arts (Grozny), and also in international fairs (Leipzig-1982) and (Damascus-1989). In 1998, his personal exhibition took place in Kislovodsk.  He was the participant of a Russian art exhibition in Moscow at Christmas in the year 2000. His works are in private collections of art works in Europe. Most typical works are exhibited on our site. There, you will also find two complete sets of handmade chessmen: one complete chess set is devoted to the Caucasian subjects, the other to the Russian ones. The chess figures are presented in national clothes of the XIX century.
