Scottish Youth Team versus House of Commons, 30 June 2003 [30/06/03]

A Scottish youth team visited the UK Parliament on 18 June to do battle with a House of Commons chess team. The Scottish youngsters won 5-1, with the MPs solitary half-points coming on the top two boards where Scottish Olympiad player and LibDem MP Alan Reid held Joe Redpath and former Ombudsman (in fact, not an MP at all) Dr Julian Farrand drew with Daniel McGowan. The other four MPs, including Dr Evan Harris and Sir Teddy Taylor, 'lost their deposits'. Earlier in the day the youth team attended a reception at no.10 Downing Street and Louise MacNab received the 'Cherie Booth Award' for being the 'Scottish Girl Player of the Year' from Prime Minister Tony Blair's wife.
