John Suler's The Psychology of Cyberspace

Some Examples of Avatar Snuggling

Snuggling and climbing onto someone's icon may convey warm, sexual, or romantic feelings. They very subtlety create emotional bonds. If someone's snuggling goes on for too long, or is not what you want at all, you may feel restricted, suffocated, and hesitant to move away for fear of hurting feelings. Right or wrong, other people may think that you two are an "item." In some cases snuggling or piggybacking may simply be playful fun - a kind of "playing to the room" or "public theater," as one member described it.
