Mr. Ilyumzhinov & General Secretary of Iranian IOC, Mr Kafahsian
Visit of the FIDE President
H.E. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov to Iran
FIDE President, President of the Republic of Kalmykia H.E.
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov had the meeting with the Vice President of
Islamic Republic of Iran, Minister of Physical Development of
Iran Mr. Mohammad Ali Abadi. The questions of mutual future
cooperation between Republic of Kalmykia, World Chess Federation
(FIDE) and the Islamic Republic of Iran in the sphere of
economics, culture and sport were discussed.
In particular, the chess development in Iran became the
important issue of the meeting. According to Mr. Abadi?s words,
chess popularization and development are of a great interest for
the Iranian government. The considerable part of Iranian
citizens is the youth up to 20 years old. This fact pushes
forward the Iranian government to draw special attention to the
physical and intellectual development of the Iranian youth. Mr.
Abadi underlined that chess is exactly the game that will help
to achieve these goals.
In this connection significant part of the conversation was
devoted to the discussion on the chess program ?Chess in School?
to be introduced in Iran as well as the inclusion of chess in
the compulsory school program. In the conclusion, Mr. Abadi
expressed the interest of Iranian government to found the
International Chess Center in Tehran in order to hold regular
chess tournaments of different levels. It is worth to mention
that in 2002 the World Chess Championship Final Match Vishy
Anand vs. Alexey Shirov took place in Tehran.
At the meeting with the Iranian Chess Federation authorities,
with its President Mr. Maddahi the following figures were said:
before 1995 (before the year Ilyumzhinov was elected as FIDE
President) there were only 20 chess players in Iran. For the
moment there are more than 400 FIDE Rated Iranian chess players,
5 International Grandmasters, 20 International Arbiters. Chess
centers are opened in all 30 provinces of Iran.
As the conclusion of the Meeting, FIDE President Kirsan
Ilyumzhinov and the President of the Iran Chess Federation Mr.
Maddahi had the Friendship Chess Match on the Art Chess Board.
On 24 June the meeting with the President of the Iranian
National Olympic Committee Mr. Garakhanlu and Ex-President of
Islamic Republic of Iran Mr. Ravsandjani was held.
This event will be held at Olympic Hotel in Tehran.
India, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan,
UAE, Qatar, Syria and Iran registered in the event.
Fide
President H.E. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov will be guest of honor
of I.R.Iran Chess Federation and opens the games.
