A new version of the excellent diagrams program, ChessDiagrammer, is now available.

4. March 2007

Two new freeware programs have been added to the Chess Diagrams page. ChessDiagrammer is an excellent program for making static diagrams for printing or the web. Pgn Reader is a new, fast and nifty Java applet for displaying games on a web page.
On the page Chess Programs & Utilities a new free chess database, ChessDB, has been added. It is based on the Scid database program, but has several enhancements. Finally I have added a link to a free service, where you can convert Yahoo games to pgn online.

Peter Strickland has modified the Chess Alpha font and optimised it for figurine notation. See the page chess fonts. Ulrike Fischer has converted most of the fonts on this site to Latex format. Link at Chess Fonts.

On the page Chess Diagrams is a link to a new freeware program, ChessTheatre, that can be used for viewing and publishing pgn files.
Peter Wong from Australia has created 70 new chess icons that can be downloaded from the page Chess Graphics

There is a new version of the diagram utility, ChessGrafix, on the page Chess Diagrams. Set up a diagram and save as a bitmap, JPG or copy to the clipboard.
You can download a new version of Tom McCormick's very useful pgn utilities from the page with Chess Programs and Utilities.

A new free diagram utility, ChessGrafix, has been added to the page Chess Diagrams. Set up a diagram and save as a bitmap or copy to the clipboard.
On Chess Programs And Utilities is a new freeware program for tournament coverage, SP2HTML. If you use SwissPerfect the program can automatically generate webpages with pairings, standings, cross tables etc.

Tom McCormick has released a new and improved version of his pgn utilities that are so useful for "cleaning" pgn files. See Chess Programs And Utilities.

A new freeware utility, Chess2pgn, has been added to the page with Programs & Utilities. The program converts Yahoo Chess Game Notation to PGN.

Test and sharpen your tactical ability! Now hundreds of combinations and endgame studies can be seen/solved online at our new set of pages Find The Move!. The pages use Palview's new quiz features, which allow you to make moves on a chess board. If you haven't found the right move after 3 guesses the solution is revealed. Have fun!

The link on the Palview download page to the new version of PalMate had not been changed correctly, so instead of version 2 you got the old version 1 that doesn't support Palview 4. This has been fixed now and we apologize for the inconvenience.

Good news for chess webmasters - Palview version 4 has been released! We also release a new version of the graphical interface, PalMate, that supports the new features in Palview 4. The program for live broadcast, Palive, has been updated to support Palview 4, but is essentially the same program.

3 new freeware programs have been added. On the page with Chess Diagrams is a new program, pgn2html, that makes HTML/Java Script for viewing games on a webpage. Beware: there are NOW 2 programs named "pgn2html" on the diagrams page!
On the page with Chess Programs and Utilities two new programs have been added. A fully grown chess database program, Jose, and a utility, Chess Game Notation File Converter, for language conversion of notation in pgn files.

A new freeware utility, PGNres, by Peter McKenzie has been added to the page with Chess Programs & Utilities. PGNres reads pgn files and produces summary reports, crosstables and more.

Two PGN utilities by Tom McCormick have been updated. The PgnTrim-program now handles chess-clock "comments" inserted by software from DGT that monitors electronic boards and clocks. Go to the page Chess Programs & Utilities.

Two new free PGN utilities by Tom McCormick have been added to the page with Chess Programs & Utilities. One for removing duplicates and one for removing games not played by the world's all-time best players.

A new freeware program, FEN2eps, has been added to the page Chess Diagrams. FEN2eps supports 19 different chess fonts and makes chess diagrams as EPS (Encapsulated Postscript Files).

Two new freeware programs, Pgn2ltx and ChessOle!, have been added to the page Chess Diagrams. Pgn2ltx converts PGN to a LaTeX input file for figurine notation and Informator symbols. ChessOle is a Windows program for making diagrams with true type fonts. The Chess Fonts page has been updated with the ChessOle font.

The En Passant site has been moved to another server - we needed more space. Consequently The Palview Developers Forum has been down for a few days. You can still read the old messages at http://www.enpassant.dk/board/board.htm, however you cannot post new messages or replies to the old message board.

A new freeware program, FullChess, has been added to the page with diagram utilities. Generates HTML or exports the diagram as an image (bitmap or PNG). Also Fischer Random.

There's a new version of Uwe Auerswald's program, PGNtoJS, that converts a PGN-file to HTML/JavaScript. The program is now freeware and there are several improvements. For instance PGNtoJS now supports DGT boards for live game transmission.

Robert Ericsson has announced on The Palview Developers Forum that the Swedish Championship in Skara (29.6-14.7) will use Palive for broadcasting the games from the GM group live every day this summer. They will use the same hardware and software that were used in the Swedish Ch in Linkoping 2001, i.e. they will use Palive + Palview in connection with DGT boards.

At the Indian National Rapid (30 min.) in Bangalore May 27-31 the top game will be transmitted live using Palive and Palview. Things will start Monday evening. Visweswaran says he'll use a DGT board, a portable PC and a dialup connection. At the moment we have no direct link, but I presume it will be available at Chathurangam.

A new freeware program, Chess Task, has been added to the page with Chess Diagrams. Chess Task makes collections of diagrams with text, ideal for e.g. chess problems. Creates Html or "ordinary" pages for print.

A few bugs have been corrected in PalMate - the Palview interface. If you have installed PalMate already you need only download and replace the palmate.exe file.

The page Chess Programs & Utilities has been through a major housecleaning. An update was long overdue. Besides a new look and updated links you'll find an excellent new freeware program for tournament management by Harald Lögdahl. Links to some programs have been removed. For instance I can't locate the problem's program "Problematic" anymore. If you know where to find it, please let me know.

2. February 2002 Today we release 3 new freeware programs:

A new and much improved version of Palview. Palview is widely used on the Internet for making webpages with replayable chess games. The new version offers unsurpassed layout control and many new features.

Palive is a new program for broadcasting chess games live on the Internet.

PalMate is a new graphical interface for Palview that makes it easy to design and process Palview webpages.

27. October 2001 A new freeware program, MailChess, for correspondence chess via email has been added to the page with Chess Programs & Utilities. On the same page a dead link to the chess database Scid has been repaired.

4. August 2001 Our host, CiHost, has been down for a day or two. I can use FTP, but the webpages cannot be seen. Sorry! CiHost claim that the culprit is "Code Red Worm". "Code Red" attacks Windows based servers that haven't installed the latest free patch from Microsoft. As far as I know, CiHost uses a Unix machine, so one may wonder what strikes next - CirrHostis?
