Now take a look at the boxwood pieces:
This is unquestionably a grand chess set with leather pads and massively weighted. The picture below shows how these appear on a 23" x 23" dark Rosewood chessboard. This board has 2 3/8" squares and is available as an option. We chose this because it adds a nice contrast to the pieces which may otherwise be 'lost' on a traditional ebony/black squares board.
The King weighs 6.2 ounces! A board with a minimum square size of 2 3/8" squares is recommended (as shown). Given the height of the pieces a square size of 2 1/2" would not be too large. The base of the King is almost 2" (1 15/16") in diameter [Leather pad diameter 1.5"] and comes with a pair of additional queens as standard.
The complete set of pieces weighs 7 1/2 lbs and is supplied with the manufacturer's (Chopra's) Certificate of Authenticity.
