NSCF Instructor, Chess Expert
Jim, a retired Wall Street Banker, has been playing tournament chess for thirty years. He is a former Chairman of Chess for the Bankers Athletic League, and former President of the Manufacturers Hanover Trust Chess Club. Jim is currently an over the board Expert, and has a postal chess rating of 2187.
Jim is still a very active tournament player. He has played in 28 consecutive US Opens. often winning prizes. He was a member of the winning team in the 1990 NYS Team Championship Tournament.
Jim has over eight years experience in teaching chess to children. He believes that while chess can be very beneficial and helpful in a child's education, above all it should be fun. Using this approach enables him to get across complex ideas without losing the child's attention.
Jim has also taught chess to adults in adult education classes and prides himself on his ability to communicate at the level of the student.
