Enjoy the rich New England tradition of seven generations of
family life at The Farm by the River Bed and Breakfast and
Stables. Located on a designated "Scenic Road," this
charming 1786 farmhouse with barns and 17 horses is nestled in
the White Mountains on 70 beautiful acres with forest and
pasture lands and Saco River frontage.
The "Farm" has always had animals. It was a dairy
farm at one time, but now the barns house 16 horses and one
pony. Every year there is at least one foal born in the spring
on the property -- a delight for all. Vegetables, hay, and
some cover crops are grown. It was also simultaneously a
boarding house, offering three squares a day and a two-week
stay. That tradition continues to this day.
An award-winning inn for "sensitive preservation,"
the "Farm by the River" radiates genuine country
charm and hospitality, with 10 guest rooms individually
decorated with family heirlooms. All rooms have views to the
surrounding mountains and pastures, a/c and private baths,
queen or king beds. Some rooms have a king bed with private
Jacuzzi bath and/or fireplace, while others have a queen bed
with private bath. Two-room family suites are also available.
A full breakfast is served on the patio with views of the
mountains, barns, horses, and gardens. In the cooler months, a
cozy fireside breakfast is served in the Thompson Room.
Breakfast includes muffins, a fruit platter, and a choice of
two entrees (garnished with edible flowers in the warmer
months). Freshly baked goods and refreshments are available in
the afternoon.
The property offers plenty of natural amenities for
recreational activities. Horseback riding is available all
year long, with discounts available to guests. You can also
enjoy horse-drawn Victorian carriage rides, fall foliage wagon
rides or winter sleigh rides for groups or couples. When the
weather is warm, you might want to stroll through the
perennial gardens, fly fish for native and stocked trout on
private waters, or swim, canoe, and kayak the Saco River right
from the Farm's private sandy beach. When snow falls, you can
cross-country ski and snowshoe right from the doorstep. |
The White Mountain National Forest, famous for miles of
hiking trails and other outdoor activities, encompasses The
Farm by the River. You are just one-half mile to Echo Lake
State Park and Cathedral Lodge, famous for ice and rock
climbing. A golf course is one-half mile away, with another
just three miles distant. A two-mile drive takes you to the
dining, live theater, regional arts and crafts, and tax-free
shopping of Conway, as well as to the Conway Scenic Railroad.
The Farm is also within 15 minutes of Mt. Washington,
Storyland-Heritage, and downhill and cross-country skiing.
The recipient of a AAA Three Diamond rating, The Farm By the
River Bed and Breakfast was voted in 2001 as one of the top 15
"Best Horselovers" Bed and Breakfasts.
The stables were awarded the 2001 Yankee
Magazine's Editors Pick Award.
The Farm has also been featured in many magazines,
including Health and Country, as well as many
newspapers such as the Boston Globe and the New
York Times. |
