  1. I am new! How do I play?
After you login, you are in the "Lobby", where you can play both sides (with yourself). To play, you need to open a new table with Open and wait for someone to join you. You can also join in a table someone already opened using the Join button.

  2. I can not login! Please help.
You need IE or Netscape 4.0. Some 3.0 browsers work, though we no longer provide support for them. If you see an error message about Java not enabled, enable Java. If you don't know how, consider reinstall your browser, as Java in enable by default. If the login is successful, but you don't see the game board, clear your cache and retry. If you still can't login, you might have problem with the network, notably firewall. Please contact your Internet Provider about the problem. There are some other problem if you are using Netscape or IE 3.x. Please consider upgrading your browser to 4.x.

  3. My opponent can add time for himself. Does he/she cheat?
What you see is an artifact of time compensation when your opponent network is slow. The time you see on your screen is the time it takes for your opponent to play PLUS the time for his/her move to get transferred to your computer. You may see your opponent's clock to move up after each move to compensate for the transferring time. This adjustment is normally 2-3 seconds, and people often note about it at game end. When your opponent's network is slow, the time correction may be quite large, up to 1-2 minutes. Please do not ignorantly call your opponent time cheater. If your network is slow, you'll notice that both clocks freeze for a while after you make a move. If both networks are slow, you'll see both time adding and time freezing. Note that many people from Europe, Australia, and Asia are in the club. The transaction time for them is quite high.

  4. My opponent freezes the clock. Does he/she cheat?  This is similar to the above time adding problem. This time, your network is at fault.

  5. My window is frozen. What should I do?
Click on menu Club, then Relogin. You can do this anytime, even when you are in the middle of a game without disrupting your game. Do NOT click on "Logout", "Exit", or "X" to close your window. The server will resign you if you are playing. Due to a java bug, try to restart your browser once in a while to prevent frozen windows. Also, try NOT to open 2 or more game windows.

  6. The member/here/present window is blank. What should I do?
This is probably because of faulty synchronization of graphic system. Click on  Club and Relogin to solve it. You may also try to resize the window.

  7. I was disconnected for a short time. When I came back, my game was gone and/or my profile changes a lot
You relogin to a different server. The profile will eventually be right after you logout or disconnected from *both* servers.

  8. What are N & P after the score? How scores are calculated?
N and P indicate that the score is not accurate, as the player doesn't have a long enough history game record. The server uses a slightly different scoring scheme for them, and the points gain/lost by them may not be the same as their lost/gain point by their opponent. N scores are those with 0-9 winning/losing games. P scores are those with 10-19 winning/losing games. You can find the points you win/lose when play with a particular opponent using the score calculation web page.

  9. What are the clocks in the program?
There are 3 clocks in the game window for game time, move time, and limit time. The server resigns player with negative game time or negative limit time. The move time are the free time you have for each move before the game time starts counting down. The default values for the clocks are 25 minutes, 3 seconds, and 6 minutes.

  10. What do the server do when a player is disconnected?
When a player is disconnected, the server doesn't resign the player immediately. It puts a () around the player to indicate the player is disconnected. If the player doesn't reconnect to the server within a certain time limit (4 minutes by default), the server will resign that player. The server often waits slightly more than that time limit. Even so, if the network is bad, the disconnected player would have a lot less time than the limit to reconnect. In any case, player should try to reconnect as soon as possible.

  11. When I review a game, can I change the moves?
Yes, limitedly. Use Game, click on TakeBackMove to take back the game to the situation you desire. You should be able to make further move from there.

  12. Some player keeps checking or repeating moves, trying to win by time. Can server do something about it?
It's unfortunate that bad people always there, some are always bad, some are bad just from time to time. Just avoid those people, and post a message complaining about them to the message board so that other people can avoid them. In many circumstances, you can look up if some operator is available (using Table, Present menu) and ask him/her to help.

  13. How do I delete old games?
The server delete the games automatically. It only stores the last 3 games that you saved.
