| WannaBe: <The Chess Express> Go to Wiki and look up Tabanus. :-) |
|
Jul-16-07
|
| The Chess Express: Ah, that explains it perfectly.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tabanus
Silly me ... |
|
Jul-16-07
|
| Tabanus: <TCE> It's better than a bug, isn't it? I'm a zoologist and this was my first avatar in CG. Then <micartouse> took it, but he gave it back! :) |
|
Jul-16-07
|
| The Chess Express: That's cool. Sounds like you have a fun job. Do you specialize in a certain kind of animal, or is that a silly question as well (i.e. insects)? |
|
Jul-16-07
|
| Tabanus: <TCE> No, I don't specialize. I'm working with the zool. collections at a museum, and have just finished taking care of the insects! Marine invertebrates next, well preserved but also dried out or half rotten samples from previous centuries. I wrote a piece about Norwegian horse-flies at the time I entered CG. |

I like the snowflake better. It reminded me of Norway for some reason. The fly, well, doesn't quite do that. |
|
Jul-16-07 |
| Timex: <Artar1> He's had the fly for a while. |
|
Jul-17-07
|
| Tabanus: <Artar1> If you do remember exactly what the fly reminds you of, would you be so kind please not to tell me? :) Biodiversity is a good thing. Thanks for the concern! |

| MostlyAverageJoe: <Tabanus> Hey, at least you did not adopt <Dermatobia> for user name :-) Cheers. |

|
| Tabanus: <MAJ> I was thinking of it, but my boss works with Oestridae, including Cephenemyia and Hypoderma (Oedemagena), so I did not want to surpass him :)) Cheers. |

Biodiversity is a good thing. Thanks for the concern!> Said like a true zoologist!
Well it does remind me of something, but not what you're expecting. The fly doesn't remind me of Norway, but it does remind me of backpacking in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. Now that's not a bad connection because I do really love backpacking. (I guess it's called trekking in Europe.) Why this connection? Well, in the Sierras during the summer it can get hot, and flies like the heat, among others things, which we will skip for now. :>)

|
Jul-18-07
|
| Tabanus: <Artar1> Don't worry, I swat them too. Here's a trick: when you meet somebody in the mountains, be sure to have the wind on your side when you depart, and the swarm of flies will be left with the one you met. It often works :) |

LOL!
I'll try to remember that! The problem is not as bad as I first made it out to be. The Sierras are a wonderful place to hike, and the weather during the summer is exquisite! I need to start backpacking again! Take care,
Artar1

| OhioChessFan: <Btw <Ohio>, why not change your forum header to something more exciting?> Sure thing. Send me a copy of the article about Norwegian horseflies. That oughta liven things up. |
|
Jul-19-07
|
| Tabanus: <Ohio> LOL. I'm glad to hear. But there's been a staggering demand, so I'm out of reprints. Sorry.

| zanshin: <Tabanus> Is your paper cited in this list? http://www.imv.uit.no/english/about... I'm also curious because my training is in biology and computer science. |

| monopole2313: <Tabanus> My grandfather studied engineeing at Trodheim. I recently found his notebooks - they're about
100 years old. |

| Tabanus: <zanshin> Answer in your forum. <monopole2313> Interesting! Are you from Norway? Your grandfather must have studied here: http://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norges..., the school was founded in 1910. <All> Guys, pleeease... write to my forum instead, and <CG>: if you delete all the off-topic posts above, I won't protest! |

| The Chess Express: <Tabanus: Here's a trick...> Interesting tactic. Perhaps now you can change your avatar to a marine invertebrate. How about a blue ringed octopus? |

| chesstoplay: Hi Mark,
Here's your question to Yury and his answer
Thanks for your patience!
<Jul-13-07 MarkThornton:
Hi Peter!
If it is not too late to do so, please could you replace my original question with my new one, which concerns the move <25...a5>. Thanks for facilitating this very interesting post-mortem! Best wishes,
Mark >
YS - 25...a5 was also an interesting approach. The funny thing is that I seriously considered 26.Rd3 at some point, but probably I should have gone with some slow ideas as 26.bxa5 first or one of two Bishop moves - 26.Bc3 or 26.Bh3, protecting b4 - I still could not stop surprising that my position might not be better at this point. |

| chesstoplay: Hi Temugin,
Thanks for your patience... here is Yury's answer.
<Jul-13-07 Temugin73: I have a question for Yuri.. I would appreciate to know if GMYS has judged the game of the world coherent in all (as a whole), or if it is remained surprised from some strategic idea evidently prepared and then "forgotten".. It would be interesting to know if the victory of the world has been caused <mainly> from: one or more errors of the adversary,
from a continuous and graduate pressure's increase, or from an our unexpected move.
I know that to these questions he has answered already in part, but I would appreciate one specific answer, if possible.. Thank's for the answers and for the beatiful match.> YS - I really feel quite impressed about strategical play of the World team and the position which looked so positionally risky turned out to be fine for Black. I feel that my mistakes made the huge impact on the outcome of the game, I am not sure that increasing pressure was a reason for that as more of surprising fact that I could not find advantage and in searching for it went for a dangerous continuation, when I got in trouble and could not already bail out. I definitely did not loose because of some unexpected move :) Thanks, Yury

This was a great game and I am very proud to have been in the World Team, even if I was just an invicible player who voted.Best Regards
