| lostemperor: After I asked him if I can make this picture (as a
"request" from chessgames) he won his only and last round game at Corus A (the next day) and became open blitz tournament winner before Sokolov, Seirawan, Van Wely, Sadler, Kasimdzhanov, Timman among others. Purely coincidence of course:) |

| SiberianChessFan: I remember seeing a report in an old Soviet newspaper that talked of him as a chess prodigy when he was 9. The interesting thing is that the report mentioned that they had done a story on him a year earlier as a mathematics prodigy. There is a write-up on him at the Corus 2006 page:

| Tomlinsky: <By the way, does this guy ever smile in photos?> It takes many years of relentless dedication to, in-depth study of and fearless playing with The Scandinavian to acquire and hone a look such as that. |

| elLocoEvans: Tivi is like a sort of James Bond in that pic up there ;) with license to check! |
|

|
| percyblakeney: Tiviakov was eliminated in the Torre Memorial at the end of last year, when he lost on time with black in this position: click for larger viewHe writes slightly sarcastically about how his draw offer and appeal to the arbiter failed before his time ran out, and points out that he couldn't possible lose even if his pawns and the bishop didn't exist. Tiviakov calls his opponent's (GM Paz) behaviour unethical but understandable considering how also the top players behave these days, with accusations of cheating going in all directions... |

| dx9293: Tiviakov put himself on the map in June 1994 with his victory in the PCA/Intel Grand Prix (held in New York) with 8/11. 70 GMs played in this tournament! Most of the other 12 players either became GMs later or are strong IMs. 2nd-10th? Kamsky, Oll, Ehlvest, Nikolic, Speelman, Smirin, Khalifman, Vaisser, and Adams, each with 7.5. Wow. |

|
| notyetagm: http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...: Tiviakov playing the Scandinavian as Black has lost only one(!) game out of 25, and that was to Peter Svidler. No shame in that. :-) |
