Jan-06-05   STendefamMuitB: no, she already got the title, she doesn't need to reach the 2500, she probably never will anyway.

percyblakeney: So then it's eleven women now, Zhaoqin Peng was given the title without ever having been that close to 2500.

percyblakeney: After sharing fifth place in Rilton Cup, Cramling was less successful in Keres Memorial, losing to Fomina (2207) and Ciuksyte (2360): http://www.stockholmschack.nu/rilto... http://www.maleliit.ee/turniirid/ar...
Mar-07-06   horror: She's ranked at #3 in the FIDE Womens rating list of january 2006!

acirce: No. According to what I hear, she (and Svetlana Agrest, with her 2257 the second highest rated player in Sweden's team) had to withdraw after the organizers decided that children under 12 were not allowed to live in the Olympic village!

I guess this must have been a problem for other players too, but I don't know about anyone specific.

Benzol: <acirce> <percyblakeney> Thanks guys. Juggling a career as an international player and being a full-time Mum can be conflicting.
Jul-14-06   rustamrocks: How has Pia been performing of late? What are her chances in Biel? Anyone with comments please feel free to chip in. Want to do research before wagering any chessbucks! LOL!!

percyblakeney: <How has Pia been performing of late?>

I think she's finishing third in the Swedish Championship this week, where she for example won with black against Agrest (2569).

Jul-14-06   rustamrocks: <percyblakeney> Thanks for the info.

Eggman: <<To sit there opposite Korchnoi with all these famous grandmasters analysing my game was unbelievable.>>

Apparently in his own way Korchnoi was impressed with Pia Cramling as well. I wish I could recall where I read this, but I remember some Soviet GM (maybe Polugaevsky or someone like that) relating that Korchnoi had trouble playing against Cramling because she was so pretty (I don't know if you can tell from this picture but I remember playing Cramling in a simul when she was 21 years old and she was indeed quite pretty)! Korchnoi, as the story goes, would be all concerned about showing up for the game all dappered up, and in addition to the above draw he lost their next game (P Cramling vs Korchnoi, 1984), then when they met again Korchnoi just to show up in a track suit - and crushed her.

percyblakeney: After the last round it turns out that Cramling finished 4-5 (of 13) in the Swedish Championship, ahead of for example Hillarp-Persson and Agrest, Johan Hellsten won.

percyblakeney: The sad truth is that big pieces and small clothes sell better in women’s chess than the opposite strategy:

keypusher: Congratulations to Pia Cramling! She came on the chess scene just as I was learning how to play, so I have always been a fan. I remember this game, annotated in <Chess Life> by the loser:

percyblakeney: Cramling has been doing well lately, when she turned 40 she wasn't in the top ten, and for example 80 points behind Stefanova and 30 behind Skripchenko. Now at 44 she's more than 50 ahead of Stefanova, 100 ahead of Skripchenko, and 3rd among the women.
