24: The Game Finally Confirmed
4/3/2005 at 6:31 PM

Gamers waiting around the clock with baited breath will be able to play the game based on the hit television series this fall on PlayStation 2.

An entire year of rumors surmised at regular intervals rendered nothing but more cranking at the rumor mill - until now. Mere days ago, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe unveiled 24: The Game in the form of a written release to the British press. SCEE, who will publish, informs it has secured the sole rights to the virtual version after signing a contract with Fox television. 24: The Game is a PlayStation 2 exclusive, and is set to be released fall 2005.

The show is now in its fourth season. Jack Bauer, played by Kiefer Sutherland, is the protagonist of the show, acting as a federal agent fighting terrorists. The game's script is written by one of the show's scribes, which follows Bauer through 24 hours of his hectic life in real time, likewise to the TV show. It takes place between the second and third seasons, and the release promises it will provide some answers to the queries raised by the sudden changes between the two seasons. 24: The Game will include the voices and feature the likenesses of Sutherland and supporting castmembers such as Elisha Cuthbert and Carlos Bernard, the former of which recently slipped word of the game's production in an interview with BBC.

SCEE's Cambridge Studio is developing 24: The Game, the same studio credited with titles like Ghosthunter and Primal. The new game is a third-person shooter, which has been announced to contain over 100 missions, ranging from car chases to ground-bound shootouts and everything in between - namely stealth missions, intelligence decoding challenges, and interrogation sequences.

We'll keep you informed of any major developments.

Our Comments
Cyrus Baetz: It's too early to tell if the game based on one of our favourite shows will succumb to the temptation of an easy TPS action game rehash, but the involvement of the series' stars signifies something worthwhile could be in the works. Stay tuned!
