I am a casual chess player who checks on games regularly. Prefer to play games in which we make multiple moves in a single sitting.

I keep up with my games even when I am down unless I have put up a vacation flag. If you don't keep up, and the skull appears next to our game, I will give one reminder and then check to see if your profile shows that you are making moves in other games; if so I'll claim the game. It's my recourse against players who stop making moves when they fall behind.
