Description:
This application will convert figures between bases (e.g. Binary, Octal, Decimal & Hexadecimal).
On the screen are four pushbuttons, each representing a base:
'Bin' = Binary
'Oct' = Octal
'Dec'= Decimal
'Hex' = Hexadecimal
Tapping a pushbutton while a numeric value is entered will express the value in the selected base.
Example: You have the Decimal value 431 and want to know how that value is expressed in Hexadecimal.
1. Tap the 'Dec' pushbutton.
2. Write the value (431).
3. Tap the 'Hex' pushbutton.
4. You will see "0x01AF". The "0x" part is not the value, it's merely a prefix to indicate that the value is being expressed as a Hexadecimal.
5. Now try the other pushbuttons...
Extra feature no.1:
BaseConverter will automatically show the "least bit size required" for any value by displaying one of the three bit sizes ('8', '16', '32') in bold font.
Extra feature no.2:
Force the "least bit size required" by tapping one of the bit sizes ('8', '16', '32'). A small frame indicates that all values showed are forced to that bit size.
Extra feature no.3:
Tapping 'U' (for "unsigned") shifts all values shown from unsigned (all positive values) to signed (both positive and negative values) and toggles the 'U' to an 's' to indicate this. A second tap toggles the values back to their unsigned value.
Extra feature no.4:
The Bitwise operators
(Tip: Best seen by tapping on the 'Bin' pushbutton first).
* Tapping the '«' makes the value shift one bit to the left (e.g. 0b00000101 will be 0b00001010).
* Tapping the '~' turns the value to it's compliment value, within the wanted bit size, if specified. (e.g. 0b00001010 will be 0b11110101). (This example assumes you have selected 'Force to bit size 8' .)
* Tapping the '»' makes the value shift one bit to the right (e.g. 0b11110101 will be 0b01111010).
Extra feature no.5:
You can easily change the different base prefixes to any two letter string. This is made at 'Menu/Preferences'.
Extra feature no.6:
By checking the box in the 'Menu/Preferences' you make BaseConverter "prefix aware". Making a 'Manu/Edit/SelectAll' command selecting the base value only without it's prefix.
