Description:
ViewChar is the result of sitting, bored, waiting for a term exam one day and hacking away at some database I/O routines. I wanted to see the ascii code for a non-printing character, so I thought "let's write a quick, 5-minute app to do it".
And then I started and it grew in the way that programs tend to. So now we have ViewChar which converts between ASCII, decimal, and any other base from 2 - 36.
It's useful if you are looking for a quick way to see the equivalents of characters in the common bases, to see what a particular number is as a character, or to convert binary/decimal to hex without having to think (i.e. if you don't do it often, but sometimes).
It also knows the call codes for most of the nonprinting chars (STX, ACK, NACK, LF, etc.), which is useful as a memory aid.
