DiddleBug v2.90b

Size: 1008 KB
Date: September 16, 2004 (Updated)
Type: Freeware
Requirements:
  • Any Hardware
  • Palm OS v3.5
Download:
  • DiddleBug2.90.b.4.zip

Author: Peter Putzer
Home: http://diddlebug.sourceforge.n...
Email: pputzer@users.sourceforge.net

Description:
DiddleBug is an electronic PostIt note that you can set with an alarm that will remind you of appointments or other things.

It is much quicker and easier to schedule an alarm in DiddleBug than in the built-in DateBook applicaton.

Just scribble something on the screen and select the alarm time from a pop-up list. You can even assign a hardware button to automatically jump to a new, blank reminder for those hurried notes. Other features include snoozing and locking of reminders.

This version also supports categories, a PalmOS-compliant list view, "private" records and sketches with attached text notes and titles.

DiddleBug is based on the Diddle sketching engine, so users familiar with Diddle will feel right as home using DiddleBug. It has the same hideable titlebar, and the same menu shortcuts. DiddleBug is licensed under the GNU GPL.

DiddleBug is currently available in the following languages:
- English
- German
- French
- Chinese (both traditional and simplified)

Update Description:
v2.90.b.4 (09/16/04):
- Full support for Tungsten 5-way navigation (even in list view)
- Full support for Treo 600 (including 5-way navigation)
- Fixed shape drawing on lo-res devices
- Fixed thumbnail generation on hi-res devices
- New "Sort By Name" command
- Custom ink and paper colors
- Support for Acer s50/s60 devices
- Better handling for private records (only the current record is unmasked)
- Fixed broken LED/vibrate alarm on non-Sony devices
- Miscellaneous bugfixes and UI-cleanups

v2.90.b.3 (12/22/03):
- Should work on all devices (hi- and lo-res) now
- Screenshot application (DiddleSnap) for OS5 devices added
- DiddleSnap Hack works on hi-res Sony Clie devices
- Lo-res sketches are "upgraded" now
- Use "DiddleBugHRDB" as the name of the sketch database on hi-res devices to be compatible with WindleBugHR
- Several bugs on Sony Clie devices fixed
- LED and vibrate alarm support for some Sony Clie devices.
- Plugins should be able to cope with hi-res now (in theory at least)

v2.60 (02/26/03):
- Editing sketch details returns to list view correctly
- Added PNG plugin
- Added "Send" functionality for SnapperMail, BlueTooth, ...
- Allow corrupted sketches to be deleted (instead of crashing DB)
- Supports Tungsten T five-way navigator

v2.55 (01/18/03):
- Fixed further alarm crash caused by one missing line of code
- Doesn't crash anymore when there are no sketches in the DB and "create new sketch at start-up" is checked
- Fixed possible crash when switching between views with hard button
- "Switch view" button also works in the two thumbnail views

v2.54 (12/13/02):
- Alarms display correctly on OS5
- A new alarm crash (caused by a typo in the code) fixed

v2.53 (12/05/02):
- New fullscreen mode without toolbar
- Added "priorities" for notes (also transfered to To Do)
- Fixed mysterious crash when alarms add up without being acknowledged
- "Lock" doesn't affect all records any more in detailed thumbnail list
- Separate setting for hardbuttons and menu/icon for "Create after last"
- Compatibility fixes for PalmOS 5

v2.52 (08/19/02):
- New optional "thumbnail" views
- New flood fill tool
- Added "sort by alarm time" to list view
- New WordSmith and FireViewer plugins
- Better handling of optional clock in alarm form - DiddleBug uses almost no stack space anymore for the alarms, so various mysterious alarm crashes should be gone
- Misc. bugfixes

v2.51 (08/01/02):
- New "Absolute..." snooze feature
- Optional clock in Alarm dialog
- Bugfix for Button Preferences: all applications can be started now
- New "Switch between Sketch/List view" action for Button Preferences
- Bugfix for Set Alarm Details dialog/24h mode
- New slide shortcut on titlebar

Diddlebug is absolutely wonderful! A must have that is much more valuable than Notepad from Palmsource. My question is ... will we see HVGA support for T3, T5 anytime soon? I know this would require db changes, but oh what a new height this would take it to.

Just loaded this on my Treo 600...I like it better than graffiti: quicker, easier to use. Great job, thank you!

v.2.60B3 continues the evolution of this stellar application by adding PalmOS5 Hi-Res support. My only quibble is that this version does not include support for the Tungsten's Vibrate/LED alarm features.

Thousands of ways to use it and it has not failed me yet. Thank you Mr. Diddle Bug. You rock!!!

Please bring back smear mode.

I LOVE IT!!! Just bought Sony Clie' T615C and was bummed to find out the Diddle Bug I beamed from my previous Palm V didn't show the sketch's on my Clie'. Located this upgrade today and immediately installed it. I do prefer the previous "absolute" alarm setting screen and the new Cust. Signal (Wind) doesn't seem to work. But those are minor, and I am so happy to have Diddle Bug again!!!

Great program. I use it for quick memos and appointments. I would like to see an extended screen like on the Palm m100. Also, I prefer the the alarm and countdown setup in the previous version. Don't like military time at all. Besides that last drawback, DiddleBug is an excellent program.

Regarding the alarm not working when the program is put on an expansion card> that's a limitation of PalmOS. There's nothing I can do about it. Smear mode> it was hurting usability. Unless more than one or to people complain, Smear mode will stay out.

The alarm doesn't work when the program is placed on memory card?

***** [Apr 9, 2002] by Don Daze
"No one really uses" smear mode? Well I do! Was it hurting anything to have it in the program? If not, please put it back.

"I'd like to know what "alarms do not display properly when the titlebar is hidden" means, as I haven't been able to find any bug there. Maybe it just triggers on some devices? Please contact me on pputzer@users.sourceforge.net".

Well, it is not yet as useable as the notepad app that comes with the m100 but is feature rich and very promising. I say promising because there still seem to be some major design flaws that allow it to hang the system. Also, alarms do not display properly when the title is in hidden mode. I would suggest that until this gets past its beta stages that anyone that needs to write notes on their palm with reliability, use something else!

Some clarifications:
1. DiddleBug works on the Sony Clie, as long as "HiRes Assist" ist disabled for it.
2. There will definitely be no version for OS < 3.5 (for technical reasons), sorry.

What can I say...freeware is almost always good. diddlebug has been an intriguing download, and I've tried all the doodling ones out there. From my perspective, the only two things I would like to see would be an extended screen to write on, like the original Palm app has.

Hi, Excellent application, work on my last palm (visor platinum, but don't work on my new clie 770 os4) I hope you can do something for that trouble !! Thank for your good job !! Good Wave !

Great application! Just one thing is going wrong on my Palm Vx. When in "Alarm Set" I try to touch "Absolute..." I always get the same Fatal Alert: MemoryMgr.c, Line 4450 Invalid chunk ptr. What does mean? Could anybody explain? Thanks and sorry for a stupid question if it is stupid.

Would there be a version for the lower OS version 3.1 or 3.3? Would there be a categories update like the Notepad in m100?

* [Aug 8, 2001] by Uwe von der Wege
It's inacceptable that the program isn't usable with OS 3.3 like the previous version. I think that *must* be possible for thousands of OS 3.3 users!!! Uwe

It's about time! Mitch said he was going to do this, but never did. I'm glad someone with the knowhow (Peter) took it upon himself to get this moving again. I'm also glad to find it here first; I'm getting weary of PalmGear's website problems. Looking forward to real color support!

***** [Jul 17, 2001] by Jim West
This is the upgrade I've been looking for! Ever since I upgraded to a color Palm I wanted Diddlebug, but it would not work and who wants the monster footprint of Bugme! Thanks Mitch for a job well done. No problems (yet). Just one last thing, I was watching Palmgear for an update but found it here. I thought I would have found it there first. No problems mate. Download it!

This has been my favorite and most used application since I got my Palm. I am pleased that the author continues to update it. This program remains on my "MUST HAVE" list.
