Winnie-the-Pooh Chess Set. This beautifully carved set is based on the characters from the ever-popular story. Each set comprises 32 pieces and is supplied with a certificate of authentication.
Christopher Robin Milne, a little boy living in England, received a small stuffed bear on his first birthday. He named him Edward Bear (later renamed Winnie-the-Pooh). Following Edward came the rest of the stuffed animals, which Christopher loved and played with throughout his childhood.
One day, Christopher's father, A.A. Milne, and an artist named Ernest H. Shepard, decided that these animals, and two other imaginary friends, Owl and Rabbit, would make fine characters in a bedtime story. From that day on, Pooh and his friends have had many fanciful adventures, from Piglet's encounter with a Heffalump to Eeyore's loss of his tail. These stories have been embraced by millions of children and adult readers for more than 70 years.
A special note about
all of our Limited Edition Chess Sets:It is most relevant to point out that our Limited Edition products are not made using a mass-production technique utilizing inexpensive latex molds as many others are. Every one of our pieces have been made individually by the hand of our sculptor using a different process [more consistent with pewter sets]. This process shows up much more intricate carving detail and imperfections where they exist! Latex molds have a tendency of 'smoothing out' some of the detail in the carving, particularly because they can swell slightly in the curing process. For example, even a thumbprint would show up using our technique and we believe capturing the entire carving art is so very important! This detail difference may not be too obvious from a web page comparison. As a result there are slight differences between the sets of the same type in terms of coloration and detail.
