Text Adventure Games

The text adventure has always been a favourite genre on the Spectrum, thrilling adventures were often played out at the keyboard with nary a graphic in sight. Thanks to the ease of use of Spectrum BASIC and the amazing writing skills of the general public, this is a hotly contested genre in the competition. Have a look at some of the most immersive titles to grace the CSSCGC in years gone by:

Fantastic Adventure - By Wayne McQuilling

An epic-length adventure that see's you playing the hero who's found himself in the predicament of being in a dark room with an unlocked door. See how long it takes you to figure out how to get out of this fiendishly constructed network of brain-busting puzzles...

About twenty seconds seems to be the average.

Including the loading time.

Dodgy's Castle - By Niall De Arab

A thrilling adventure in which you have to guide the Dopey in his attempt to escape Dodgy's castle. The twist in this game is that your character is slightly mutton-jeff and so you'll have to type in all his instructions twice so that he can hear them. Pure genius!

Curse Of The Sandwitch - By Brown Software

This game features some of the most accomplished artwork ever displayed in a type-in adventure and as such would sell for at least £9.99 on the open market - and that's probably why I dismissed it out of hand as a serious contender to the CSSCGC crown.
