| (December 23, 2004): PLAYERS NEEDED!! 3rd E-mail U.S. Championship to be played on ICCF's Websever!! The 3rd E-mail US Correspondence Chess Championship will be played on ICCF's Webserver. This will be an excellent opportunity for US players interested in trying out this new way of playing correspondence chess! | (November 29, 2004): U.S. Correspondence Chess Championship Archive (USCCC) Update! Franklin Campbell has just added a new database to the USCCC archive for the 15th USCCC Preliminary round. The old database had 179 games. The new version has 628 games. Many thanks to N. Eric Pedersen for his huge contribution by manually entering all the previously missing games, and to Franklin for all his effort to provide this valuable record of our games! The archive can be found at: http://www.iccfus.com/games/usccc.htm Franklin also requests that if anyone has any information on the USCCC 5th Championship preliminary round, please contact him! |

| (September 19, 2004): The ICCF is delighted to announce the start of regular class tournaments on the ICCF Webserver. With immediate effect the ICCF is accepting entries for the Open Class, Higher Class and Master Class tournament sections to be played on the new ICCF Webserver located at www.iccf-webchess.com. | (September 9, 2004): Due to Hurricanes
Charley and Frances and the possibility of Hurricane Ivan, the
US has received extensions of the deadlines for both the World
Cup XIV and the First Season of the Champions League. The new World
Cup XIV deadline is 22 September. The new Champions League
deadline is 30 September.
Max Zavanelli and Ruth Ann Fay are still without power and water at their home. The home also sustained some damage during Hurricane Charley. They are fine, but are not able to be in the ICCF-US office during normal hours. Please be patient if you do not receive a response to your entry or inquiry as quickly as normal. | (August 22 2004): The 17th US Championship Prelims are set to start September 7th, 2004 - 9 sections, 7 players each. The cross-tables are now available online - and will be updated after results have been submitted by the TD. | |
| (August 21 2004): Dear Chessfriends: As of today SIM Jason Bokar (NAPZ Deputy Director) will take on the role of Webmaster for ICCF-US. After a long service, Franklin Campbell would like to take a well deserved rest from being the Webmaster. Thanks Franklin!! I hope I can fill your shoes, and I think we'll be seeing more of Franklin behind the chessboard in the near future! Franklin will remain the Archivist. | |

| (2 August 2004): The Games Archive has been updated with over 350 games from USCCC finals (3rd through the 13th). See USCCC Games Archive. This is all the USCCC Final games collected from various published databases (some preliminary round games have not yet been processed). If you have additional games please send them to the ICCF-U.S. Games/Crosstables Archivist/webmaster. In particular, crosstable information and games are needed for the 5th USCCC Preliminary round. | |
| (27 July 2004): The Games Archive has been divided into two pages to separate the USA events from the NAPZ events. Eventually, the NAPZ Games Archive, along with other NAPZ information, will be moved to a special NAPZ web site, separate from the USA. Till then, the ICCF-U.S. web site will continue to host the NAPZ pages. The USCCC Games Archive has been given a new format. Games will be added to individual databases as they become available. For some events only a few games will be available. Hopefully, the databases will continue to expand over time and many of the historic USA championship games will be preserved. | |

(15 July 2004):
ICCF-U.S. Secretary Max Zavanelli released his announcement today
that the USA Olympiad team has advanced to the final for Olympiad
XIII by placing second in Qualifying group 4. The Final will start
1 November 2004. Congratulations to our outstanding team of GM Joseph M. DeMauro, SIM Jon Edwards, SIM Gary L. Kubach, IM William E. Maillard, GM-elect John C. Timm, and SIM Daniel M. Fleetwood and Olympiad Team Captain Alex Dunne. Read the full announcement. |

Joan DuBois, Director of the US Chess Website and USCF Correspondence
Chess, has announced that over 500 games from the USCF Absolute
Championship events have been added to the site, thanks to the
work of Bob Rizzo. Joan says all the games are from Master
and Senior CC Master players.
You can check out the Absolute Championship Review page for a link to the games and player profiles, or you can go directly to the Game Page. Games are in replay format and are from events covering the years 1976 through 2002. |

The postal event will start August 15, 2004 (entries close July 15, 2004) while the email event starts January 15, 2005 (entries close December 15, 2004). NAPZ and USA Players' Path to World Championship
Frank Goebert and Ruth Ann Fay have worked together to create an update to the old USA Ascension Chart and included the NAPZ activities in it. It is available here as a GIF image or as a downloadable Power Point page. (25-May Update: Another useful chart is available in the ICCF Brochure.) GM V. V. Palciauskas of the USA has written of making the world championship his goal when he started playing correspondence chess. He went on to climb the ladder and gain the 10th world championship! Who will be the next USA player to take on this challenge and gain the ultimate cc title? Why not you? |

(27 April 2004): Congratulations to John C. Timm on earning his second GM norm and qualifying for the GM title. The Title will be presented at the 2004 ICCF Congress in Mumbai, India. John C. Timm earned the IM title in 1998 and the SIM in 2001. He won the Second NAPZ Championship in 1998 with a 12.5/14. Since then, he scored a 10.5/12 in the XIII Olympiad Preliminary, earned his first GM norm with 12.5/16 in the World Championship XIX Candidates section 3, and has just earned his 8th point in the Itzhak Veinger Memorial section A. This is an extremely strong tournament, Category XIII with 3 GM's and 6 SIM's. John is the second highest rated player on the USA list. Congratulations to GM-Elect John C. Timm! New USA Top 50 List. Congratulations to Tim Murray, 11th USA co-champion, who has entered the top 50 list at number 5 with his first fixed rating of 2595. Also, IA Grayling Hill has entered the list for the first time. IM Allan Savage and IM Michael Millstone are back on the list again. See Player Ranks. |

(26 February 2004): Congratulations to Robin Smith (USA)! Only last year he received his SIM title at the 2003 ICCF Congress. Now he has qualified for the Grandmaster title, which he will receive at the 2004 ICCF Congress in Mumbai, India! Robin Smith won the 13th USA championship Final (1999-2002) and also shared the 11th USA championship (1995-1998). He fulfilled the requirements for the GM title by obtaining GM norms in WC24sf sec 8 with a 9/10, GM norm 7.5 over 10 games, start 30 March 2000, Category 8; and in Veinger Memorial, Section A, currently 8/13, GM norm 8/14, Category XIII, start 1 June 2002. The Veninger Memorial included 3 GM's and 6 SIM's per the QC report. Congratulations to GM-elect Robin Smith! |

| (7 January 2004): A new Player Ranks list (ICCF-US Top 50 Rated Players) has been posted based on the October 2003 ICCF list. You can still find the previous list by following the link at the bottom of that page. Also, the List of USA Titleholders has been updated to include the IM titles for players with higher titles (many of these were left out in the previous list). 13-Jan-04: missing player added to Player Ranks list. |
