Purpose

This is a site mainly about writing and creativity. It contains few graphics, but a great deal of content.

You may consider it an information and give-away page. There are freebies and shareware here for the taking, free software (including the Public Domain ENABLE benchmark reference word list for Scrabble® tournament play), Scrabble® info, word gamers' study software,
mortgage loan software, recipes, essays, poetry, semi-pretentious scribblings for you to enjoy (and criticize), a "literary magazine" of guest writings, a complete e-text book,
HOW-2 Meet Women, Linux info, an illustrated anecdote about a haunting religious image in a desert plant, a consumer manifesto for the new century, and even an "oil painting" for you to use as a screen saver, if you so desire. Access to the Web is a wonderful privilege, and it is fitting that those of us so blessed should give something back.

This site is for intelligent, thinking persons only. If you do not belong in this category, please exit immediately.

Skylark Utilities Editors's Pick

Shamelessly blatant self-promotion.

The author of this site is a programming consultant (C, C++, etc.), Linux system administrator, freelance writer, and German-to-English technical translator available on a contract basis.

Credentials include game and file encryption software, publication of a file security program in ELECTRONIC DESIGN, inclusion in the C USERS GROUP collection, and writing both the Advanced Bash Scripting Guide * and the Software Building HOWTO ** for the Linux Documentation Project. The Bureau of Export Administration and the National Security Agency considered his cruft encryption utility too dangerous for export (which is why it was not available for distribution for over a year). His article, "Adding a Second IDE Hard Drive", appeared in the March, 1999 issue of the Linux Gazette. His Soundex script appeared in the July, 2002 issue of Unix Review, and an introduction to sed scripting appeared in the June, 2003 issue. In matters of system security, he has been certified as ultraparanoid by Laura Wonnacott of Infoworld in her August 16, 1999 Test Center Rx column.

* Selected as a reference document for a Linux certification study guide. It is equivalent to a 800-page book.
** In print in the Linux Systems Labs two-volume compendium, Linux: The Complete Reference, 7th ed..

Available for writing and documentation projects (fee negotiable).

In Appreciation

We would like to express our thanks to The River Internet Access Co. and Midvale Telephone for bringing Net access to rural communities in the southwest. In the true spirit of American enterprise, these people are demonstrating that it is possible to make a profit while performing a public service.

Support Linux in its fight for survival against the unholy Microsoft-SCO Group Alliance.
