Welcome to The Alaska Chess League,

The Alaska Chess League is designed to provide a positive Chess environment for the competitive and aspiring Chess player as well as the social player.

As a thirty year participant of Alaskan Chess, I have seen various fine Chess people come and go from our great state. We all have some fond memories and great stories to tell I'm sure.

If I may share a few, like driving through white out conditions in a February snow storm so as to make sure your one of the eighty plus Chess maniacs at the annual Fur Rondezvous Tournament. Or maybe the time you were a little late for the round because of the eagle that took out that mallard in mid flight, and your eyes got real big when that dead duck bounced off the hood of the truck you were riding in and almost caused a major traffic accident. Or maybe memories of playing a great friend or rival in a last round encounter for first place in a no holds barred all out fight. How about the guy you lost four match games in a row to and then you turn around and whip him seven and a half out of eight in tournament competition over the years. Ah, the pleasures of Chess! How about the one guy you never did beat but you still like him anyway! What an amazing cast of characters Chess has drawn at all levels since the beginning of Chess itself.

I'm very glad that due to my retirement that I can finally give Caissa her due and hopefully create many more fond memories for all to enjoy.

Yours In Chess,

A chess game is divided into three stages: the first, when you hope you have the advantage, the second when you believe you have an advantage, and the third... when you know you're going to lose!
