Dutch Treat - A Great Mate

Submitted by billwall on Mon, 08/20/2007 at 8:06pm.

Isaac Boleslavsky was a Soviet Grandmaster and a well-known opening theorist (you can check out the Chessopedia for more details of his life).  He helped train Petrosian and was his second when Petrosian beat Botvinnik for the world championship.  In his early days, he won the Ukrainian championship many times with his aggressive play.  Here is one of his early games where Boleslavsky plays the Dutch Defense and holds his kingside while his opponent castles queenside.  Boleslavsky soon finds the right combination to expose the enemy king and force mate on the 7th rank.
