I am kuldeep Bharadwaj from India & playing the chess from 19 years. Still I am 35 years old. From some years (may be 4 to 5) I am facing some chess problems like correct calculation and long analysis the position. Basically I want to ask to all the senior member's of Chess.com that How can I get again my fast chess calculating power. Is there any age factor. Still I have 1976 Fide ELO rating. Is there any way to achieve the 2350 Fide rating. I have played many games against Machine & humans before 2002 that time I could calculate 10 to 12 moves series in many ways. People called me the master of city. But now I have nothing in my mind. I have lost my calculating power. Now a days I play only move to move. What should I do. I have left physically sports cricket, exercises etc. May be this is the cause. I don't know Please help me.

I think the best way for you to get your calculating and visualization skills back is to practice chess tactical puzzles over and over. Here at Chess.com we have the "Daily Puzzle" that you can take a look at.

Another great resource is the "Chess Tactics Server" (http://chess.emrald.net/). Every day I visit this website and try to solve some puzzles each day to keep my mind sharp and practice studying positions looking for the winning ideas.

Over years of constantly studying chess tactical puzzles I feel that it has really helped to improve my chess play.

<kuldeep> It sounds like you got away from the game for awhile. You need to rebuild your knowledge of the game if I am correct. Also, giving up exercize is not a good idea. Physical exercize is healthy for the mind as much as it is physically beneficial. As for chess Matt is correct about tactical study, as much as possible. As you play more games, and study tactics, the feeling of the positions will return, but it depends on how long you were away from the game.

Are you sure there isn't a medical condition behind your problem? We complain about declining mental ability as we age, but this comes gradually. Your post gave me the impression that a sudden and substantial loss of analytical ability has occurred. For a young guy of 35, you should not be complaining about this sort of thing. Consult your physician, before anything else. If that checks out well, then it seems that you need to force yourself to come to the chess table and do some serious mental gymnastics---solve complex problems, don't move the pieces, force yourself to sit at the table until you have the answer, make it a daily habit, eat wisely, and get back to exercising...

Dear friends Creg,Chessbuff, Matthelfst

Very good morning, & many many thanks to all of you. I am reply  at 10.00 am from my office. Your suggestions looks like true friend. After know my problems you really gave me wise instructions. First of all I want to tell you which I forgot to share in my first mail. I smoke daily 5 to 6 Cigrattes & I know It effects your brain & nerves system. Yesterday I meet my relative. He is a Homeopathic Doctor & I told him all the matter. We spent 3 hours together last night. He is also a good player but never plays tournaments etc. due to his very busy schedule. He knows chess theoritically. I showed him my games database at my laptop. After comparison of games before 2002 and after 2005 he found big differences. He told me you are becoming weak by weak every year. He said " I am not sure kuldeep but something is wrong with you. You can get more correct suggestions from such type of people who are fully involwed in chess may be they are giving coaching and play regularly. As a doctor my advice to you take full sleep, eat healthy (stop fast food) and stop smoking & try to concentrate your mind in chess that's all. So friends I will do hard work again in chess with physically strenth and prove myself again. Again Thanks.
