UK versus China match Sep 4 - 9 [10:00 EDT | 16:00 CET] The Liverpool Chess International takes place 3rd-9th September 2007 in Liverpool, England. There is a match UK vs. China. The format of the match will be a Scheveningen for the first six boards (each player meets all six opponents once); and similar for the women's boards (each to play both opponents three times). 	Rising Stars beat Experience 26½-23½ Aug 22 - Sep 1 At the end of a close and exciting contest, the ‘Rising Stars’ saved the best till last with a big final round win of 3.5-1.5 over the ‘Experience’ team of yesteryear stars to claim victory in the match. Wins from Sergey Karjakin and Daniel Stellwagen ensured the ‘Rising Stars’ a final overall score of 26.5-23.5.

While it was a true team performance from the newer generation of stars, the standout score of 7/10 from Karjakin gave the young Ukrainian the bonus prize of a coveted qualifying spot for the 2008 Melody Amber tournament in Monaco.

If that were true in the chess world, then ace Dutch photographer Fred Lucas has written what must seem like the Collected Works of William Shakespeare! There's none more professional amongst the camera-wielding rugby scrum of photographers than Fred Lucas, armed with his trusty camera and collection of lens' as he sets about getting candid and unusual photos of all the players in action as you have never seen before. "My relation with chess is simple," says Fred. "I'm a photographer who is very fond of the game, loves the atmosphere at tournaments – it's if you can really feel all the ideas coming up on all those boards – and I love to make pictures, especially with available light. What I like most when photographing chess players is to get their emotions that are otherwise hard to see, because life immediately proceeds to the next moment. Before the start of a game most players are busy with themselves, concentrating and some give you the impression that they really don't want to pay attention to anything else than the game to come."
