B-schools with entrepreneurial flair

These MBA programs blend real-world small-business know-how with top academics.

Babson College
Babson College
Babson Park, MA
www.babson.edu
Tuition: $35,110

Why we chose it: Known for a faculty that mixes seasoned entrepreneurs with leading researchers, Babson fosters innovation in all aspects of its programs. "Babson sets the standard by offering real-world exposure, peppered with an academic experience," says Jay Kayne of Miami University of Ohio. Students can choose between a one-year and two-year MBA and courses are in the form of modules, which last between four and a half and ten weeks, and which focus on creativity, assessing opportunities and managing a business. The school even teaches a course on how to take over an existing business. Students pack the annual Forum on Entrepreneurship and Innovation, which will be held on Oct. 12 this year. "There's no question that after 40 years of ingraining entrepreneurship into Babson's culture, it's now part of our DNA," says Babson vice provost for entrepreneurship and global management (and Jiffy Lube founder) Stephen Spinelli.
