(April 2006) A year ago we wrote about using a personalized news service to gather all of your chess news sources into a single compact format (see the link box in the upper right corner of this article). At the time we found only a handful of chess blogs that were enabled to deliver news feeds.

The blog world advances constantly, and this year we are happy to find many chess blogs with this capability.

Google News

If you rely on news.google.com, you'll find that any query can be converted into a news feed.

The links for 'RSS / Atom / About Feeds' on the left of every page provide the feed.

Top Blogs : Syndicate or Subscribe?

Getting the feed for your favorite chess blog is not always as straightforward as it should be. Looking at the blogs we currently list under 'Top Blogs' (see the link box again), we find a number of terms and technologies in use.

Some are a mystery.

  • Susan Polgar Chess Blog • We had to do some work to find the syndication feed. (Hint: It's in the page source.)

Not all blogs offer feeds. Some just don't want to get involved. Here's one that we found particularly honest.

  • And Then There Was Chess • 'That RSS stuff is way over my head. Too much to handle for my too much occupied brain. I am not really into all that webstuff. If I was I'd probably have created a professional website instead of this blog thing. Not that I don't like it cause I do.'

The syndication feed for this last blog (lrci.blogspot.com) is, in fact, available using the same trick we used for Susan Polgar's blog (susanpolgar.blogspot.com). Even more interesting, the trick seems to work for all blogs using the blogspot.com service, which as far as we can tell is the service of choice for chess blogs.

Other Interesting Bloglike Services

We know there are many more chess blogs worth subscribing. We also know there are many good chess blogs we haven't discovered yet. We'll add more tips and tricks to our page on chess blogs (link box again), as we get deeper into this subject. In the meantime, enjoy your syndicated chess news!
