The acronym ECO (Encyclopedia of Chess Openings) refers to two different but related concepts:-

  • A five volume reference (A-E) published by Chess Informant; and
  • A system of chess opening classification using codes A00-E99.

Each volume of the Encyclopedia covers 100 codes, e.g. Volume A covers A00-A99. This image gallery shows the ten single digit codes, e.g. A0-A9, covered by each volume.
