Chess composition
My main hobby. I am author of about 400 published problems, I won more than 200 distinctions in various tourneys and I already judged more than dozen tourneys, in September 2000 PCCC honoured me with official title International judge of FIDE, with specialization in fairy chess. For 3 and a half years I was a leading editor of Pat a Mat (Slovak magazine for chess composition) and I maintain large site about chess problems - Chess Composition Microweb. Most recently, in September 2002 PCCC extended my area of judge's competence to helpmates! Also I finished the 5th in the World Championships in Composition for Individuals (WCCI) in fairy section, getting the same sum of points as the 2nd!Girls

Well, I studied at Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Comenius University, Bratislava, Slovakia. I was specialized in algebraic and differential topology. I am also trying to get PhD, I work with simplicial complexes, the more precise specialization is "Using topological methods in theory of social choice". But it is very slow and painful process... Recently I didn some work in the field of cohomology rings of flag manifolds.Banking
Not only I have some money in bank, but I also work in bank. Beeing mathematician, I have to learn a lot here and it is by no means boring! I've finished official studies that brought me a certificate of qualified bank employee. I defended successfully my work "Financial risks of commercial banks and possibilities of their regulation by National Bank of Slovakia" and I keep on learning about various financial risks that the banks are subject to. Recently I started work on project of implementing Basel II in Slovakia.Basketball
I love this game! I was playing it a bit during university study, then I was referee for three years, but then my touch with this game was fading... Fortunately, I catched the leaving train a bit during the summer 2000 as I played it a lot in the evenings. Even more I played during the summer and autumn 2001 and started to play it regularly on Fridays. It is still valid...Books
Reading is great way of passing time. There is no problem for me to read whole book in a day or two. Of course, I have some favourites, but it is hard to list them. So only quick ideas: Alice in Wonderland, I. Asimov - Foundation series and Robots series, L. Feuchtwanger: - all I have read (about 5). I am fascinated by new-darwinian The Moral Animal by Robert Wright. Now I returned to excellent legend Lord of the Rings.Music
I play guitar. Very badly, but provided people around have enough spirit in their veins I can survive a few songs. Further, I was singing in a choir TECHNIK for 4 years and a half. I learned a lot there. But having little time, I had to give up this interesting activity. Of course, I like listening to music, almost all kinds, with except of brassbands. My favourite classical worldwide known composers are Vivaldi and Händel. On the other hand, I am big fan of modern music, from angloamerican area I like R.E.M., Madonna, U2, Dave Stewart and many more interprets, from Czechoslovak area Buty, Hapka&Horacek; songs, Richard Müller, Team, etc. Also, I attended dancing course in 2001, now dancing is no problem for me.Computers
From 1986 to 1992 I owed Sinclair ZX Spectrum + and I was its great fan. I used to write programs in BASIC, of course, later I learned Pascal, a bit of assembler, Prolog, lpc (a kind of C for LPMUDs). I have virtual identity over Internet as Ruziklan. But I am no longer fanatic. At least I am able to write these HTML pages without special tools, only in text editor and I also can write Excel macros for speeding up my everyday work. Most recently I did some ASP programming.Bughouse
Bughouse is crazy chess variant for 4 people that is played with very short time limit, we were usually playing it 5 0 (it means 5 minutes for the game). We were the group of 11 bughouse fans playing it OTB in our flat, but last games we played in the middle of July 2000.Other interests
I am currently learning French, only slowly, but regularly. (Well, I paid for course and that makes me work as I don't want these money to be thrown away.) After 2 and a half years I reached "advanced" level. I speak and write English, but only with mistakes as you can see from my pages. I also speak and write Russian thank to compulsory learning in basic school, now younger people here don't know cyrilic. It is a pity for them, I think.Currently I am involved in growing indoor plants. Only simple ones as my approach is highly amateurish, but they are growing nicely, especially mandarins and pomegranates as well as spider plants.

This page have begun on August 1998. Probably it won't be very interesting to anybody except the people interested in chess composition. (But who knows?) I have already written a considerable bunch of files that present my views onto chess composition.
